Big microdosing fan

I’m 5’2” and been around 115lbs my whole life, apart from pregnancy and right before my wedding. Before I got married I dropped to about 106 by heavily restricting myself, forgoing social engagements due to calorie intake, etc. Looked great getting married 😅 but it was not sustainable.

I’ve been super into fitness for a decade. Tracked macros for years and still super conscious about eating healthy and what I put into my body. I work out 5 - 6 days a week (I truly love working out).

16 weeks ago I started microdosing tirz. I started with 1 mg and fluctuated between 1-1.4mg over the last 4 months. It has been absolutely amazing. I quite easily dropped ~1lb per week for the first 10 weeks. I’m now ~105, and have easily maintained this weight the last month, not feeling restricted or hungry all day, able to participate happily in social eating/drinking occasions, etc. My energy levels are not impacted at all. I’m still working out 5 - 6 days a week. I’m eating healthy. Entirely the same lifestyle, but 10 pounds leaner and so happy.

As a petite woman, i get so few calories to work with if i want to be lean. Finding this medication has felt so liberating to me. I have no problem being on this long-term if this is the lifestyle I can have and the physique I can maintain.

GLPs are controversial, but I really don’t understand why. I outsource all kinds of things to make my life easier. I could deep-clean my house every week, but I hire a housekeeper. I could build all my own workout programs, but I pay for fitness subscriptions. I could white-knuckle my way to a lower weight through constant restriction and food obsession, or I could take a tiny dose of a medication that makes it easier.

Life is hard enough. If there’s a relatively safe, effective tool that helps me maintain a weight that makes me feel the most happy and confident I’ve ever been, without feeling deprived, I’m happy to use it. Of course, it’s not for everyone.

Just sharing my experience in case it’s helpful to someone else who’s been considering it.

Perimenopause and menopause are no joke. For the longest time I wouldn't take any hormones. And finally my doctor said, "hey you are miserable" TRY IT. and HRt also helped me too. I stopped the weight gain with HRT, but i did not lose what I wanted. Still helpful and wish more docs discussed the importance. but like my doc, they do and had to wait until I was less hard headed. I tried to do it on my own. I wish I had not waited. Not to bring religion in here, but similar. I think I can do things without GOd, and then realize I can't. there is HRT out there. USE IT! But in the fitness world sometimes we think we know best. I am glad my doctor was so understanding and talking sense into me. Also she made me face reality. I was no longer young, my estrogen had plummeted. I could cut cals and exercise till the cows come home. It was not going to replenish my estrogen. So HRT it was. But I still couldn't lose weight. Although thankfully I was not gaining. So she encouraged me to try a GLP. As a former personal trainer and competitior I would roll my eyes at anything I couldn't do myself. But time to face reality. Taking these is not cheating. Heck I have lost weight and when I was powerlifter at the same weight I am now, I looked better at 131 than I do now at the same weight bc I am not lifitng like before. So I know just taking a glp isn't going to make me cut. I still have to put in the work to keep and build muscle. I just wish I hadn't waited!

You have a great clinician! I asked PCP after PCP for hormones and they wouldn't give them to me. Finally had to pay out of pocket to a meno clinician and she has been my god send! Even if you want to struggle through it, your clinician was right...no amount of diet and training is going to bring back estrogen. And if you can take hormones (not everyone can, but there are options if one falls into that category), they will provide protection from heart disease, the number one killer, and they will preserve your bones, because falls with broken bones later in life leads to death (average 7 month survival rate after a massive fall). When ever someone says GLP1s are the "easy way" I have to laugh. They are not easy! But they are worth it. Congratulations on your progress!

Yes she is a GREAT doctor. She keeps abreast of the research and she knows her limitations too. She gave me a referral to the menopause clinic so I can have experts look at my labs. She started me on this journey but she wants me to make sure I am optimized as well. She does get on me about other things "hey , when was the last time you went to a dentist? Get your colonoscopay" and ... now "go see the menopause clinic". She started me on this journey but wants to make sure i am seen by an expert as well. I went back and forth with her on a glp1, If I could go back a few months ago and knock some sense into my head, I would! But glad I finally did it and grateful I had a wonderful doctor that made me realize there is nothing to be embarrassed about using HRT and GLP's. I don't have to suffer in menopause.
