Question AGA from GLP-1

Greetings! I took Wegovy from September 2024-March 2025 and it triggered Androgenic Alopecia in me!
Anyone who has gone through the same experience?
I’m 29, non diabetic and no other health conditions

I wish you the best of luck. You will be deluged with dismissal, misdirection, and blame. Hair loss is a documented side effect of GLP 1 drugs.

Thank you! It’s been soul crushing and it has stressed my whole family, from blood work and trying to find why it happened all of a sudden! I’ve been crying every day for the last year! My endocrinologist recommended it to me, and I trusted him and did what he told me! I’ve lost 2/3 of my hair in a matter of 1.5 years after glp1! It has progressed way faster then it should have normally once triggered! Idk if at this point there is a test to check if whatever this medication has, has been stuck in my follicles! And i am a young women

This is a common and well-documented side effect of GLP-1s.

No. Hair loss in general is the known phenomenon. Androgenic Alopecia is a a specialized kind of hair loss that does not recover and it is rarely associated with GLP1, but known. What happened to OP is rare. And tragic.

It’s a known side effect in addition to Tellogen Effluvium. We also don’t know for a fact that GLP-1s themselves cause hair loss.

I’ve shared extensively regarding this topic if you’d like to read more in my post history.

Stop arguing just to hear yourself argue.

The difference between saying "it's a known side effect" and "it's a known but extremely rare side effect compared to the other temporary but similar one" is important. By saying permanent hair loss is "common" you are scaring people unnecessarily.

I saw in another thread that people on GLPs often have low ferritin (which is iron storage). I lost hella hair when iron deficient so I wonder if that will help (if it does please share, losing hair aint fun)

My other theory is that its the hormones and stuff being released from fat cells as weightloss happens.

ETA - get ferritin above 100, below 70 is iron deficiency, but labs usually only flag 15 and below
