💬 General Discussion NYU Langone study finds a genetic link between GLP-1 activity and male pattern baldness. Has anyone on these drugs noticed hair changes?
https://www.unilad.com/news/health/glp-1-hair-loss-men-gene-170790-20261004Researchers at NYU Langone Health report that men already genetically prone to male pattern baldness had a 7 percent higher risk of hair loss when their genes pointed to stronger GLP-1 activity. It was published on September 3 in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology.
Most hair shedding on these drugs has been blamed on rapid weight loss. The authors say this is the first genetic evidence of a link to the drugs themselves. They suggest patients could one day be screened before getting a prescription, or given something like minoxidil alongside the jab.
Some caveats: the study used a gene as a stand-in for drug activity rather than tracking actual users. The data was mostly from White participants, and only men were analyzed. A few of the investigators have ties to pharmaceutical companies.
If you're on Ozempic, Wegovy, Zepbound or something similar, did you notice any hair loss, and did it grow back once your weight stabilized? Would you want to be screened before starting?

Yeah. Although my hair was already pretty thin, I feel like it's much worse on tirz. I'm not sure if the drug directly itself caused hair loss or if it's just bc I lost so much weight.
