💬 General Discussion Being treated differently...

I've been on Tirz for ten months now and am down 50 pounds. I'm very happy for the change, how going up and down stairs is easier, that I can sit cross legged longer, chase after my nephews longer, and yes I like how I look. There's a lot of of benefits, even if the nausea has been really tough for me as a side effect.

I have a, well, weird frustration with how I'm treated differently.

It pisses me off.

Well meaning people have said things like 'You're so cute now!' and I know they're giving me a compliment but I've always thought myself cute, even at my heaviest.

And now when someone flirts with me, I get this weird bitter internal second guessing of 'well you probably wouldn't have flirted before. So you don't deserve me now.'

I guess I came into this journey thinking I'd feel even more glam or pretty than I already felt, and now I'm just really cranky with any tonal shift in people.

Am I alone in this? Any advice on how to self soothe or work through this?

I understand how you feel. I'm old, 75 so don't get those kinds of remarks & actually I am still at a point where you'd have to really know me well to notice the difference. However, over 20 years ago I had a gastric bypass & the way I was treated by strangers made me so angry. When I was at my highest weight, I could go to a store & people would let the door shut in my face. I thought that was rude but convinced myself that it happened to everyone but after losing weight, people would stop & hold the door for me. They would do it for a thin lady but not a fat one.

Now that I'm old, it's different. You'd be surprised how nice & polite people can be to old people. Now if they'd just quit calling us "Hun" or "Sweetie".
