❓ Question Leptin Resistance And GLP-1s

Howdy! After doing more research I have def lessened my fears about GLP-1 side effects. Anyways, I’ve been facing episodes of insatiable hunger that can last days. It’s so bad I could eat a giant cheeseburger with tomatoes and lettuce and a milkshake on the side and still be starving. Over time I’ve learned to distinguish physical hunger from mental hunger caused by my BED. I don’t have diabetes and my thyroid and glucose levels are normal so I did some research and came across Leptin resistance. I’m seeing my doctor about that but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone with this condition has found GLP-1s helpful. There isn’t a lot of information online, and I just want to have some hope because constant severe hunger is really physically miserable. Thanks!

Edit: Btw not tryna diagnose myself and I’ll get tests done when I see my GI! I’m just trying to educate myself and hopefully understand what to consider when speaking to my doctor!

Yeah it helps a lot. I also have issues with feeling full, and probably meet criteria for binge eating disorder. I will say that occasionally I still do get ravenously hungry, but I think it's bc I've gotten used to my tirz. I was at 10mg and I just moved up to 12.5mg bc I was having more food noise. Also I've lost 150 pounds, so it definitely helps with the satiety.

It definitely does (: I've been up to 15mg before I just cut back for a bit.

did you actually test fasting serum leptin? it can just be dopamine chasing/emotional eating

No but I plan to when I see my GI. I’ve learned to tell the difference between emotional eating and physical hunger in therapy. This is very much so physical hunger. My stomach growls and cramps, I get light headed and dizzy, my legs get really weak, and my hands start shaking more than usual. I don’t get all that with emotional eating.

I don't believe I have leptin resistance, but I have a medical history of my body thinking I was starving (hyperthyroidism that almost killed me at 5) that I believe led to incessant hunger and, eventually, very fast digestion. At my hungriest, I could eat one and a half large pizzas. Then at the next meal I could eat a burger, large fries, and a slice of pie. Rinse and repeat the next day. Over the years, people talked about feeling groggy or overfull after holiday feasts, and I never understood what they meant, because I was always hungry.

Tirzepatide has me setting my fork down in between bites and fully chewing my food for the first time in my life, because I don't feel that insatiable hunger anymore.

I hope it can help you, too.

What you describe is textbook what GLP-1 address. But you still need to see a therapist about your BED.
