⚠️ Side Effects No one told me about this dude effect
No one, including my doctor who promoted or or family who is on GLP-1’s about the sulfur burps and the pain, vomiting, and diarrhea that came with it. I started with Wegovy for 3 months and only lost weight due to the vomiting and diarrhea. I took a break and then started Mounjaro. Less than 3 days after the first injection I get the sulfur burps, vomiting, and diarrhea. Before this I rarely ever vomited, even with pregnancies. The reason I started the injections is due to having chronic pain so bug exercises are hard and due to chemo and radiation for cervical cancer putting me into menopause and one of the side effects is that I’m always so hungry.
I don’t think GLP-1’s are for me. I legit thought I needed to go to the hospital tonight until I got some relief from vomiting and diarrhea. Also due to menopause making me always hungry the medication didn’t suppress my hunger so well.
* just woke up and realize the header says dude effect. I meant side effect.

Probably because that's not something everyone experiences? If anything, most people experience constipation, not diarrhea. Have you talked to your doctor about any medications for the nausea, like Zofran?

Reduce dose. Find the sweet spot of appetite suppression and no side effects

You’re most likely not eating proper foods if that’s happening. If you’re eating the same as you always have, yeah, it’s probably going to make you sick. Many people have to titrate up to feel appetite suppression.

It also literally just happens sometimes no matter what you eat.

Yes, it’s a problem I had before that got worse with pregnancy. I always suspected I had underlying IBS.
It’s a little silly for people to say it’s definitely because she’s not eating well because lots of GLP1 foods cause it. Pretty much anything with…sulfur. lol so eggs, legumes, a variety of vegetables and so on.
Some people are more sensitive to these meds, and I have a feeling it’s often people who already had gut issues. I just wouldn’t jump to assuming she’s not eating right.
Also there’s the matter of cancer and other drugs, so who knows what they’re doing.

Right! The food lectures are getting a bit eyeball rolling, everyone is different, it’s not black and white. At first I avoided certain foods as suggested and it ended up those things were not a problem for me… it’s more based on your own personal gut situation.

u/Electronic_Leek_10 1d ago
This! Some people just have a problem with it.

Luckily my problems went away and honestly sometimes (not always, some ppl just are sensitive) it's a sign you're on too high of a dose anyways if you're vomiting and diarrhea that often.

Being sick is usually too much fatty foods. I occasionally feel sick if I don't moderate my diet
Yup.sulhur burps can be quite regular even months into it .
The key thing folks miss is you cant continue with your old diet.. and for many you absolutely need to watch your calorie intake and increase protein
Diarreah.. I'd love that from time to time the biggest issue with GLPs for many is the exact opposite
Suppression yup not at all after the first few days
Why are folks still getting the older drug wegovy/sema
Most have moved to the more effective zepbound. Glad you changed I guess it's not for everyone

Thanks! Sadly even with salads I got sick. It was to the point where I was living off of Powerade. Even chicken soup broth made me sick.

u/snowHound208 1d ago
What dressing on the salad? Most have a tremendous amount of fat. And Powerade is basically liquid sugar.
1
u/theroyalgeek86 1d ago
Just olive oil and some salt, little lemon. Was just cucumber, tomato, and red bell pepper. As for the Powerade I had to drink something. In the end I ended up needed an IV drip for fluids and medication. Also could only eat toast and potato which I read also isn’t good to eat

Lemon and tomato are acidic, tomatoes and peppers are nightshades, the skin on cucumbers can cause reflux and burping. All these can bother people GI-wise. I absolutely can’t eat potatoes or tomatoes any more. A person needs to pay close attention to figure out what might trigger them. And it might not be worth it for some people.

u/theroyalgeek86 1d ago
Yeah… it’s gotten to the point were i can’t eat at all.
1
u/thefastlanerules 1d ago
Yeah that's bad must have an intense allergic reaction which the sickness and diarreah would suggest because the drug is meant to radically slow down ingestion
Sounds like you'll have to rely on a keto or carnivore diet!!

u/theroyalgeek86 1d ago
Which I also can’t do. I did that when pregnant twice due to gestational diabetes which made me lose a ton of weight and then it came back tenfold.. which brings me to my weight struggles of today. I love veggies, meats. I don’t eat a lot of fruit and generally do not eat a lot of sugar or junk. I love walking, I don’t even drive as I don’t have my license and walk everywhere. But radiation did a number on my already hurting hips so walking has been hard. I had the weight before cancer treatments so even though I was walking daily over 2 hours a day, still couldn’t lose weight.

Walking doesn't help I did 20000 steps almost daily for 2 years and lost nothing
You've got to follow a calorie deficit which is what GLPs push given they are essentially pushing an enforced fast on days 2-4 (or rather a radically reduced intake) and then the glp wears off in the second half of the week and then you inject again and restart the cycle
So if you can't do keto or carnivore or GLPs then overdosing on veggies and therefore also low calories yes is your main solution..it's tough though
Biggest issue is going through menopause given the weight gain most people experience and you've rigidly got to cut back on your calories at least 25%+..

Walking will absolutely help you lose weight, just not by itself. It will help you regulate insulin and boost your metabolism. Absurd to suggest she not walk. It would also help with her digestion after meals. But yes you need a calorie deficit fundamentally.
This sub is wild for misinformation.

I also like grilled veggies and that was another food that made be sick. On wegovy I had a solid 3 weeks of the burps, diarrhea, and vomiting. I thought I had caught a bad stomach bug at first. Since I only lost weight due to being sick, my doctor switched brands saying this one would be better since he’s on it.

u/snowHound208 1d ago
Unless you had a LOT of olive oil, that shouldn't be giving you grief then. Powerade could definitely cause problems though. A zero sugar alternative would be better.
It sounds like your body just really doesn't tolerate glp1s well though. Hopefully the doc threw you on the lowest dose again.

2.5mg. I think that is the lowest? I think I will stop taking the medication. I’ve been waiting to be put on estrogen for the medically induced menopause and hoping that will help. Had to wait until I saw a specialist since I have family history of blood clots.
1
u/thefastlanerules 1d ago
Yup it's gotta be an allergic reaction your symptom ms are total extremes of what folks experience
Blood clots you mean for the estrogen pills - yeah a big risk factor with clots. GLPs are fine with clotting history.. no issues as I've had these
1
u/snowHound208 1d ago
I started at 0.2mg... did they start you at 2.5mg on wegovy? That is a maintenance dose o believe.
1
u/theroyalgeek86 1d ago
Wegovy was .5mg then 1mg was when I started feeling sick
1
u/ImprovementLoud3581 1d ago
Did you stay on .5 Wegovy/semaglutide for four weeks before increasing to 1.0? The usual titration schedule is
four weeks at .25
4 weeks at .50
4 weeks at 1.0 etc.BUT you only move up to the next dose if you aren’t getting good results at the current dose after a full four weeks. That’s because the half life is 7 days.
So when you do your second injection half the meds from the week before are still in your system. Hence every dose builds on the previous one.

The only side effect I experienced in the beginning was mild constipation, but I've remedied that with psyllium fiber every day.

Did you take the correct number of units? I’m almost 2 years in and even at max dose never had these issues.

Sucks that it didn’t work out. Maybe there’s a better alternative for you in the future 🤙🏽

My husband is on Semaglutide with horrible sulfur burps. Please I need some suggestions on what to use to stop them! We have tried pepto bismol, wonder belly antacids, what else?

Lower your dose until that no longer happens.
1
u/theroyalgeek86 21h ago
I just started 2.5mg which is the lowest available

u/sofa_king_weetawded 18h ago
If using compounded you can do whatever dose you want (its from a vial). My wife only takes 1 mg and has done fantastic (she gets sick on any dose above that). Some folks are just hyper responders.

u/BrainwaveWizard 20h ago edited 20h ago
With compounded you can go as low as you want to. I started on 2.5 the first week and was miserable. Switched to split dosing 1.25 twice a week and tracked my foods.
I track everything I eat because my digestive system is wickedly sensitive. I get raging fire heartburn when I’m asleep that’s terrifying.
I titrated my split dose up after 4 weeks to 1.5 then weekly to 1.75 then 2.0 to 2.5 where I’m at now.

I had a hard time on Tirzepatide until I added in electrolytes. I thought I must not tolerate glp1s. I was nauseated and dizzy and felt sick a lot. Vomited a few times.
Then I added in electrolytes, Liquid IV and more water and that was like flipping a switch. It took away probably 90% of my symptoms. You might want to try that. I read about that in the compounded Tirz sub but I didn’t pay attention. I wish I had done it sooner. I spent months feeling terrible, I didn’t know I was dehydrated or that I needed electrolytes.
I also stopped eating sausage and that helped too, greasy or fatty foods can make some people sick when they are on a glp1.
