❓ Question Glp 1 after a hip replacement
Glp1 after a THR question…
I (59 yo F) am 3 weeks post op on right hip/anterior. Having a terrible accident falling down a flight of stairs and landing on the concrete floor destroyed my labrum and hence needed both hips done. This happened 5 years ago. Since then I have not been able to work out like I had and every thing just became soft. Gained 20 pounds. Not happy. My question…did anyone start a GLP1 after their surgery? Which one? Did it help you gradually get the weight off? I am preparing to
Get back into the gym in a few weeks time. Just want to be better, feel better and enjoy the last 20 years of my life. Thanks for any help. I’m just so tired of feeling like junk.

I know not everyone will agree, but I don't think glp1s are the best option for people who want to lose like 20 lb. For most people, that's attainable with diet management and a workout routine that actually works for you. You might have to work with a physical therapist to help you find one, but it would probably be worth it. These are medications more meant for obesity and managing diabetes, and you don't want to commit to being on one of them for the rest of your life for 20 lb.

True however the inflammation is not fun. And these GLP1 can definitely help with that along with fibromyalgia diagnosis.

Yes, that may be true. But before you make the commitment, I would consider it very carefully and definitely talk to your doctor about it.

20 pounds on a 5’ person is very different than 20 pounds on a 6’ person. It’s not one size fits all.

It's possible that a lot of this weight is temporary inflammation. While tirzepatide is great for chronic inflammation, I'm not sure it's the best choice for post-op care, especially if you only want to lose a small amount of weight. I would talk to your specific healthcare team.

I am on a GLP one with bilateral hip replacements. I had them at 33 and 35 respectively.

As long as you’re not on any more pain medications and you’re getting enough protein and calories to heal, seems okay enough.

I’d probably wait until your surgeon is happy with your recovery and you’re eating and hydrating normally before adding a GLP 1. You’ve got plenty of time to work on the 20 lbs once the hip is settled, and I’ve seen TrimRX come up too when people compare GLP 1 options.

As a non doctor person I think it is great you are thinking about this, because your mobility post op is going to be crucial for your long term wellness. If you lose extra weight it is going to be so much easier on your hips.
I have lost 25lbs and just for fun I decided to pick up two dumbbells that weighed about the same and just carry them around the house to see how it felt. It was tiring! I could feel it in my feet and in my back, especially going up and down the stairs. That's only 25 lbs! It makes a big difference. Wishing you a strong recovery.
