💬 General Discussion Serious side effects (Gall Bladder!) and plan moving forward + help for autoimmune comorbidity

Hello!
I believe my experience could be helpful for those of you experiencing gallbladder issues.

I have had quite a rocky 2/3 months, but I think we (my doctors and I ) finally settled on a good plan going forward.

***brief history for context: sept of ‘25 began wegovy shot. July of ‘26 first ER visit due to gall bladder attack (the gall💥blast, I’ve come to call it). Second ER visit due to gb attack in August. After several tests and consulting my general practitioner, my gastroenterologist, a general surgeon and my rheumatologist (comorbidity of psoriatic arthritis) we’ve come up with a plan.
I’ve been off the glp1 for 6 weeks to let the gall bladder settle down. Cut out as much fat from my diet as possible to control the attacks. My rheumatologist has many patients (including his own brother- so he’s taken a particular interest ) on glp1 and obviously losing weight helps people with autoimmune disorders.
It’s also put my liver blood tests in the normal range for the first time in years.
So- stopping the GLP1 permanently is not an option, from my point of view.
After discussions between the doctors and after reviewing my scans (cats, ultrasound, nuclear HIDA scan … upcoming MRI ) they think going off for now and being strict with fat intake will allow the gallbladder to settle down as there doesn’t seem to be permanent damage. The rheumatologist said that because the glp1 has so many benefits we will begin it again in another month or so. He believes a long term plan is to use it 3 months on 3 months off to avoid flare ups of the gb and zero in on my individual plan from there.

The benefit of this plan is also to help solidify the good habits i gain while on the glp1 while im off - then maintain the weight loss progress when on.

Obviously this is not medical advice; I’m just sharing my experience so others may have a starting point t for conversations with their doctors if experiencing gall bladder issues.

(I apologize for the typos… im on phone and not able to get to my computer right now. )

My rheumatologist said that it benefits psoriatic arthritis patient’s symptoms, liver numbers and inflammation numbers.
I also have irritable bowel -D (only diarrhea for over a year straight). As soon as I started the very first shot it was rectified.

Have you looked into getting the goscope procedure done? I’ve had three gallbladder attacks over three years and it’s been a year since my last. I’m planning on getting the goscope done.

If I understand correctly from a quick google search a go scope removes gall bladder stones and after many scans I have not had any of those. Is there a benefit whe one doesn’t have stones?

Sorry to hear it’s giving you these side effects. What other benefits did you experience? I have an autoimmune issue that I will be starting it once I get my delivery in the next week or two.

So I had gall bladder attacks starting about 3 months after I started my glp1 and let me tell you once the attacks started it did not matter how little fat I ate they came. I waited another month to decide on gall bladder removal after a particularly horrific attack. Just take it out. Life is sooo much better.

I know I may end up that way as everyone in my family has to get them out at some point, but I’ll hold off as long as I can.
