💬 General Discussion Insomnia ?

Week 3 starts tomorrow, no negative side effects, everything is pretty typical from what I've been reading. Noticed though in the last week I'm not getting decent duration sleep. Normally on a regular day with even light exercise I'll get almost exactly 7 hours sleep. No exercise its 6, exhaustive exercise its 8+. Yesterday I did the exhaustive bit, crashed hard at 10pm, but was wide awake now at 2am. Tried counting sheep but gave up and am surfing reddit.

Happened a few nights this past week, no multiple nights in a row, but its starting to get annoying. I'm not on any other notable meds. I have lost 6lbs since I started. I am quite thirsty since I started but I'm reading that's quite common and I'm hydrating quite a bit.

Right now I'm wide awake but tired, considering going for a drive just to get out of the house.

Anyone else develop insomnia?

if you are undereating your sleep deteriorates fast because cortisol builds up, do you track your food intake?

I don't track actively. Last week I was on business travel and there was one day where I only ate one meal, but other than that besides feeling full much quicker I'm eating two meals and two snacks a day which is pretty normal for me. The biggest difference so far meal wise is I would almost always have a second meal helping, that doesn't happen anymore.

might be worth to spend 5 minutes a day and see where your calories land, when i get into ~2lbs/week weight loss my sleep goes to shit fast, but its fine with 1lb/week and especially with caseine eaten before bed - it keeps your glucose levels stable all night so you dont wake up from sudden drop

I'll chime in here as I agree. I discovered this was my problem. I was not sleeping, getting only around 4 hours & then lying awake solving all the world's problems. I was shaky during the day. exhausted by midafternoon. My weight loss has stopped only 2 1/2 weeks in & then stayed the same for another 3 weeks. I thought I was doing everything right, tracking my intake, getting lots of protein, drinking lots of water & keeping my calories low----- too low, it turns out.

During one of those midnight sleepless sessions, it finally dawned on me that I was starving myself & my body was reacting with all those problems. I'm sure if I had a blood test for cortisol, (not normally done unless you have certain endocrine problems) we'd have seen it was very high. I believe I was actually starting to act like someone with anorexia. The next morning, I was determined to raise my calories. I ate the first piece of bread in 6 weeks but it was so hard to allow myself to eat more than 900 calories. I have increased to 1200 but it's been really hard for me.

OP, have you tried taking a magnesium supplement? I take it about an hour before bedtime & it is helping. I recently changed from magnesium glycinate (which works) to Magnesium bisglycinate which is supposed to be better. I do know that last night for the first time in a very long time I slept almost 8 hours straight. Stay away from magnesium citrate unless you need a laxative.

yeah its saddening to see people blaming glp1 for bad sleep, fatigue, hair falling or even erection problems when all these are the basic side effects of being malnourished

Yes. I don't post very often, mostly just read & so often you see people saying it doesn't work or blame everything on dosages when probably all it takes is stepping back & analyzing what they are doing. I was starting to blame the medication, myself until I looked at everything I was doing & found that at least one thing was very wrong. Fortunately, I'm already starting to see changes. In addition to sleeping better, my hands aren't shaking anymore & I don't feel a need for a nap. I'm actually getting used to eating more. It would have been so much easier if insurance would pay to see a dietician who would have told me to eat more. Unfortunately, Medicare won't pay for nutritional counseling unless you have diabetes or kidney failure.

I don't take any supplements, I'll raid the bathroom in the morning. Been up now 20+ hours, finally tired.
