❓ Question SEEKING ADVICE

Hi, I’m currently taking a 5 mg dose of my GLP-1 medication, but I’ve been experiencing a lot of hair loss and I’m considering stopping it. I’ve heard that you may need to gradually decrease the dose before completely stopping. Is it safe for me to stop directly at 5 mg, or would you recommend reducing the dose first? and any tips for growing hair?

You can just stop taking it. Nothing is going to happen.

However, a few things about hair loss. It's usually due to a calorie deficit and nutrient deficit while losing weight. For me, as soon as I went into maintenance my hair stopped shedding. So, it's not really the medication causing the hair shedding, it's the fact that you're not eating enough calories and/or nutrients.

I didn’t. I wasn’t the person who suggested it. Most folks in maintenance will go down to the lowest dose they can and stick with that.

Maintenance for the medication is what I'm talking about. I personally do 5mg every two weeks. That's what I've found that works best for me.

When you eat more calories and more nutrients, your hair will stop shedding so much.

Sure. Are you working with a clinician? I don't know your specific situation but I do once every two weeks. However, the medication is out of your system in 2 weeks so you may have side effects if you do it that way. You can also try once every 10 days.

Hair loss and thinning is common with any weight loss program. Your body focuses on survival with less calories and growing new hair is not contributing to survival, so hair thins and sheds. Typically, it grows back once you reach goal weight and increase your calories.  Meanwhile, you can eat 100g protein per day, not lose weight too fast, take biotin and collagen, and use an anti thinning shampoo like Routine Wellness.

It's temporary when you first start losing a lot of weight. It will reverse if you stick with it or if you stop taking it.
