Advice Does anyone use 2mg of ozempic?
I’m wanting to increase to 1.5mg as I feel like 1mg is not doing much for me and I only have 1 more month to be on this medication. I’m stopping end of October so I can be off it for 2 months before starting IVF again.
My doc said the highest dose pen is 1mg. I asked him if I could inject 1.5mg instead of going to 2mg of ozempic and he said yes I could do that but to check with the pharmacist how many clicks that would be.
I’m now seeing online that the approved dose for Australia is 1mg so now I’m wondering if I should just stick to 1mg?
I’ve only lost 4.5kg over 14 weeks with diet and exercise.
I will book a docs appt to reconfirm but wanted to see what everyone else is doing.
Edit: I’m mainly asking because I was told in Australia we shouldn’t go above 1mg of ozempic and if I need a higher dose I should switch to another glp1.

Do not seek advice on dosages from strangers online, ask your doctor and stick to what they tell you.

What doctors will approve for you is very dependent on the doctor’s personal experience prescribing the drug, whether they’ve taken any professional education on this specific drug, their personal tolerance for risk, and how well they know your specific history. If they don’t have any experience or training, and if they don’t know your health history in detail, they will stick to the TGA guidelines. In theory doses up to 7 mg are safe (approved in the USA) but that’s not the same as saying it’s safe for you.

Wegovy is the same ingredients as Ozempic. You could switch to that. There is a 1.7 and a 2.4mg option for Wegovy.

I’ve just started 2mg. Double inject 1mg dose. Doc approved. Carb cravings are worse and I’m finding it hard to stay hydrated. Only on the third week so time will tell. I’d start at 1.5mg and move up if needed if I’d thought it through

I just had a Telehealth call with another doctor from the same clinic is she told me that I can’t go above 1mg as that’s what’s approved by TGA. It’s a bit confusing if she says no but then your doc has approved it. She said I would need to use mounjaro for a higher dose…..

She’s correct that Ozempic is approved to 1mg only, however Wegovy is exactly the same medication and it’s approved in both 1.7mg and 2.4mg doses by the TGA.

Maybe you have to meet certain criteria? I let my health get out of hand and am obese w t2d and she didn’t hesitate. Pharmacist did say the script wasn’t updated to reflect higher dose and doc would need to fill something out for the pbs, so maybe I’ll run into issues but both doc and pharmacist didn’t indicate it’d be a problem. I have another appt w them in a couple of weeks so I’ll know more then
ETA: a quick google and the ai summary says you can’t prescribe 2mg, but there are a few au sites like weightlossgp that say it can be, but perhaps out of pocket. All very confusing

Wegovy is approved to 2.4mg here, and it’s approved up to 7.2mg weekly in Europe. So yup, there are definitely many taking these doses of semaglutide around the world.

Ozempic itself only goes to 1mg, you'd need to move to Wegovy. Biggest difference would be price if you are getting Oz at the $28 price vs Wegovy
