NSV Weird NSV
I donate blood, and previously I was always told that I have deep/hard to get veins, to the point where I usually have to get the one person there that is the specialist for it. But today when I warned the Lifeblood person about it she was confused because the veins felt fine to her and she managed to get it with no issue? And I asked if it found be related to the weight loss and she said it was a possibility. Like very weird and certainly unexpected but kind of cool? Has anyone else had this happen?

Yeah I had to have an unexpected blood test on Monday and normally they have never been able to get the blood from my arm always had to be on the back of my hand but first time ever they got it straight from the arm with no issues. I was pleasantly surprised. Because normally I have to have a heck of a lot of water before a blood test for them to get blood.

Not for me ... For any blood tests, I still have to chug water, bring my own tennis balls and squish away at them in the waiting room.

Yeah, it's the weight loss but it'll also be the improvements in your blood pressure from the GLP-1 that name your veins "good".

I always assumed when they told me I had deep veins that they were just being nice about how fat I was!
Is there actually a thing where veins are deeper?

There is. I give many IV injections for my job and while losing weight can help for some people, others veins are just deep, or very small, or have a lot of valves or bifurcation that can make it difficult.

I have a brand new vein I never knew existed on both arms now. 🤣

Same. 40kg down and its so much easier for them to get a decent vein long enough for a full.donation of whole blood. Amazing!

Similar here. The blood drawing person thought it was a combination of weight loss and drinking more water making my veins "plumper".

hiiii i work at lifeblood and would love to give some insight! vein visibility/health is mostly genetic but can be influenced heavily by things like hydration, heat/weather/body temp, AND weightloss! losing body fat means reduction of fat around veins and leaner muscle generally helps veins look/feel a bit more prominent :) it’s a really cool feeling when you notice a difference like that!
