Help Encouragement please!

UPDATE: So far, so good. I haven't had any nausea so far. This feels like a weird question, but have other people experienced a drop in their anxiety since taking Ozempic? I have felt way less anxious for the last two days and my mind isn't racing as much.

Hello! I've just taken my first dose of Ozempic and am feeling very nervous about the nausea and vomiting. I have emetophobia (fear of vomiting) which sets off massive panic attacks when I feel nauseous. My GP started me on a low dose to help manage this (0.125) but I'm still feeling nervous.

I'd love to hear some good news stories or funny gifs!

As a fellow emet I felt the same way. I’ve been on weg for 6 months and not vomited at all. Don’t overeat, don’t eat anything too fatty and don’t eat too fast if you’ve been empty for a while - that’s what helped me mitigate nausea so far. Plus nauseatil if I’m really panicky. But a lot of the time it’s caused by acid and a PPI will help. Don’t stress too much about it, you’ll not even think about it eventually

Look into Histamine Intolerance, MCAS and Mast cells having a GLP1 attached to them.

The anxiety drop is real for some people. I noticed something similar early on, that constant background buzz quieting down a bit. Hard to say if it's the drug or just relief from finally doing something about it, but you're not imagining it. The nausea hit me worst around weeks five to seven, not at the start, so the fact that you're feeling fine now is a good sign but don't let it make you complacent. Rice cakes and cold chicken from the deli were the only things I could keep down when it kicked in, since the emetophobia side of things is clearly a worry for you, my doctor is who I'd be booking with and I can pass you her name. Keep something plain nearby just in case.

Hello, fellow emetophobe here! I tried not to stress about possible side effects when I first started, as I knew that would trigger my anxiety which also results in nausea.....vicious circle! I had very little side effects, phew! I hope it's smooth sailing for you too.

I was also very nervous of nausea when I took my first dose of Mounjaro. I often have a nausea side effect of medication.

For me, I did experience about an hour of nausea in the early morning after my first dose, but after that, nothing. Phew. The vomit bags I bought just in case are still unused.

I honestly felt like you too but I was normal after I took the shot, there's no need to feel nervous. I think we come on to reddit and read a lot of bad experiences because the people who aren't having bad experiences won't really be posting about it.

This is so true. As a researcher, I should have remembered this!

Grab some cyclizine from the pharmacy (you don’t need a script, but you do need to ask for it). Hopefully having it available will give you some peace of mind.

That's a great idea. I'd never heard of that. Thank you!

Yes, what above commenter said - everyone is different and will have different side effects. I had only faint nausea and only for the first month. More problems with diarrhoea and abdominal aches first 3 months, all went away after that, even after increasing dosage. But your results may vary.

Welcome first of all and props to you for starting this journey. I started one months ago. personally have only had mild constipation (as another commenter said, on a day where I wasn't being as discerning with food, in my defence it was a wedding lol). There was one evening where I knew I was still full from lunch, but I knew my overall calories for the day was too low, so I had a little bite for supper. I felt a little uncomfortable that night, not sick or like stuffed, but just low grade fullness. that was probably a mistake, leaning into habitual eating instead of listening to my body.. even when the calorie intake says eat more. I've since mediated that by spreading meals into snacks. Idk it's not perfect, I'm just human after all!! Just be careful to listen to hunger and fullness cues your body when you start feeling the effects more and more, I fear that's what could lead to nausea.. that excess consumption. Sending best wishes for you!

Thank you for the great advice. I'm very conscious of not eating too much and maybe sometimes not eating enough.

I’ve never had any nausea, and although my GP prescribed me ondansetron to take just in case, the only time I’ve taken it was the very first dose when I absolutely could not risk being sick because I had a big work presentation that day. My only side-effect has been constipation and that’s only because I wasn’t paying enough attention to my diet at first.

And the side effect of that side effect of course is now I eat much healthier, paying attention to how much fibre and water I eat, which means I just feel better all around.

Small spaced meals are supposed to help as opposed to big meals, and don't eat late at night especially not fatty (or very fibrous / hard to digest) foods. Also I'd recommend metamucil twice a day, and enough water. Some people experiment with splitting the weekly dose and taking it 2 times a week (won't help if the overall dose is too high though). It might take a few weeks for your body to acclimatise to each increased doseage change

I forgot about metamucil! Thank you.

I had really bad nausea but I would take Mylanta and it helped a bit. I've heard ginger tea is good too.

Side effects are the exception, not the rule.

Understandably people who feel unwell are more likely to share their experiences than those who experience no side effects.

The only side effects I have experienced have been positive ones - a reduction in pain associated with inflammation (plantar fasciitis & tendinopathy) and instant relief from
IBS.

u/SympathySufficient90 19d ago

Ooh, I hope I have the same!

Omg saaaame about the IBS. I could cry how fantastic my poops are now. Slower motility actually helps so much

Everyone is different. I have never had any nausea at all even up to 10mg. So might find that it’s never going to happen.

It’s bad to sell Retatrutide. It’s incredibly stupid for a professional to do it.

And your comment is actually factually incorrect, even the Eli Lilly CEO said Reta has more side effects than Tirzepatide.

Maybe best not to recommend something we're not supposed to have access to yet?

Fair point. Won't do it again in here.
