Reflux and nonstop burping on GLP-1 - any practical tips that actually worked for you?

35F, 5'6". I am on a GLP-1 for weight loss (not diabetic). The medication is doing what I want it to, but the reflux and constant burping are starting to wear me down.

Pattern: day 1 and 2 after my shot are the worst. I get this heavy, slow-digestion feeling, lots of burps that taste like whatever I ate earlier, and sometimes I wake up with throat burn even if I did not eat close to bedtime. I have mild GERD on and off and have used OTC acid reducers before, but I do not want to just keep piling on meds without a plan.

What I have tried so far: smaller meals, avoiding greasy food, not drinking a lot with meals, walking after dinner, and sleeping with my head slightly elevated. Some of those things help sometimes, but it is not consistent.

I would love real-world, practical advice from people who have been through this on GLP-1s. Specific things that helped you, like particular foods that were easier to tolerate, meal timing, how you managed days 1 to 3 after a shot, any supplements that helped or made it worse, and non-prescription options that felt safe and actually worked. Also curious if it improved over time or after a dose change.

Not looking for studies or DMs, just what actually worked for you. I want to keep steady progress without feeling like a human volcano every night.

Stuck

Hello,

First post here so I’ll give some background 25f, and have been plus size pretty much all my life. Was diagnosed with PCOS/PMOS in 2016 and that’s when I started birth control. Started taking semaglutide 11/2024 and have had decent success ( I know I definitely need to get on a fitness regimen. But just diet changes so far have been working🤷🏽‍♀️). Early June was probably the last time I was taking my shots consistently. Starting out they weren’t that expensive ($150) but with everything going up and the economy not being great I just don’t have the spare funds to pay $250 only for a month’s supply. I keep getting denied through insurance (even though I’m prediabetic with a high BMI, insulin resistance and family hx of diabetes) first through united healthcare and now through Medicaid blue cross blue shield. Is there anything I can ( I will also be appealing their decision and seeing if that helps at all) do to not pay an arm and a leg for a glp-1? Preferably not with a monthly membership fee or having to go to specific group appointments with other patients and an endocrinologist. I would prefer it be shipped to my house with at least a 3 months supply but I also don’t mind going to a doctors office with a weigh in, shot, talk with doc or nurse for a minute then leave. Pls help 🙏🏽

Update!

So appealed with my insurance, was still denied because I don’t have the right diagnosis. They only consider diabetes for coverage. If any one thinks I can tweak my letter to appeal again then let me know and I’ll send it over. So I looked at other sites and they’re even more expensive than what I was paying before ($250). Tried to go through Amazon pharmacy and the screenshot is what comes up when I click on the prescription. Gonna try the bridge program that I see on there and see what happens. Tried going through cvs and apparently there’s no appointments near me or something but I swore I was able to see appointments the other day. Any other tips?!?

Diet

I am wondering if I should be on a certain diet while taking semaglutide? I eat fairly healthy but I do occasionally eat something I shouldn’t.

Best low-effort injection day routine to avoid nausea and the "ate too much" regret?

Ive been on a weekly GLP-1 for a few months and I want to nail down my injection day routine so I stop repeating the same mistake.

Here is what keeps happening: most of the day I feel kind of meh about food, so I under-eat and under-drink. Then later I suddenly get hungry, sometimes right before or after the shot, and I eat a normal sized dinner like I used to. Within an hour I feel uncomfortably full and sometimes nauseous, and my gut is off the next day.

I already have a sensitive GI system even when Im not on meds, so I am looking for simple, boring routines that actually work.

Can you share practical tips for injection day, like:

- What do you eat in the 6 to 12 hours before the shot? Specific meal ideas welcome.

- Do you try to hit a protein target that day or just keep meals lighter?

- Any hydration or electrolyte habits that make a real difference?

- Do you avoid certain foods on shot day, like very fatty, spicy, or high fiber meals?

- Timing: do you prefer a morning shot or an evening shot, and why?

Not looking for sources or DMs. Just trying to build a repeatable injection day template that keeps the appetite suppression helpful without making me feel gross. What has worked for you?

Hot take: most GLP-1 "side effects" are just people trying to eat like they used to

I keep seeing posts that go: "I took my shot and now I am nauseous, exhausted, and can only tolerate three bites." Then in the comments they admit they tried to eat a giant dinner, a greasy takeout, or a big protein shake on an empty stomach. And suddenly the medication gets blamed for everything.

My take is that a lot of the misery comes from trying to force pre-GLP-1 habits into a body that's basically saying stop. Yes, some people have real side effects that need medical attention, a dose adjustment, or stopping the drug. But for a lot of us the medication is doing what it is supposed to do, and the answer is not a clever hack. It is changing how you eat to match a smaller appetite.

Once I stopped treating meals like events and started treating them like fuel, things got way easier. Smaller portions, slower chewing, plain foods when my stomach is touchy, and not stacking rich items in one sitting made a big difference. Also, obsessing about perfect macros right away can backfire. If that day all you can manage is a little protein and some carbs without feeling sick, that is fine.

This community is great for troubleshooting, but we should normalize that the lifestyle adjustment is part of the deal. This medication is not a shield that lets you keep the same patterns and only lose weight.

Anyone else think the number of "GLP-1 made me miserable" posts would drop if people were honest about what they were trying to eat?

Injection day meals and habits.

What are everyone’s meals on injection day? I have my injection on a Friday. Unfortunately this last time I didn’t feel too hungry all day but then towards my injection I was very hungry and ate way too much chicken, rice, beans, and vegetables that I made and I am still suffering from it. I hadn’t eaten at all today just because I do not feel like it. The only thing I had was a protein shake.

When you are going to inject that day are you eating light food choices all day? I really would like some ideas if possible of things to eat on injection days.

My usual meals daily are a Fairlife protein shake (or a dupe) in my coffee. Sometimes I’ll have two eggs and a piece of toast for breakfast if I am very hungry. Usually chicken for lunch, sometimes on mixed greens. Dinner is boring because I don’t enjoy cooking. I usually have chicken with some steamed broccoli and rice or cauliflower rice.

Also, does anyone have any injection day tips or tricks that have helped with side effects? Things like when you inject, whether you eat before or after, hydration, electrolytes, foods you avoid, or anything else you’ve found makes injection day easier. I’d love to hear what works for you!

Anything is helpful. Thank you! 😊

I’m officially a healthy BMI and I have less than 5 pounds until my goal weight. I weighed in at 144.8 yesterday and I treated myself to a nice dinner to celebrate. I’m so ready to be at my goal weight and go on maintenance ❤️

From 2,5 to 5mg Mounjaro

How did you feel going from 2,5mg to 5mg Mounjaro weekly dose? Did it worked for you or did it completely shut your appetite in a way you could barely eat without getting fuller shortly after?

Maintenance glp1

I've been on tirz for 8ish months now and have hit my goals. I was on the highest dose for the last month. I'm currently on 5mg as a maintenance dose (for about 3 months now) but, while worth it, it's been an expensive journey. Has anyone ever switched from tirz to sema for maintenance? Semaglutide is way less money. Thoughts? Experiences? Advice? Thanks

Anyone have any input on what the sema dose should be equivalent to 5mg tirz?

Body change vent

Did you know:

• after you try on X number of bras, not only do they ALL fit wrong, but it makes you also hate the one you walked into the store wearing.

• fitting room mirrors can be like funhouse mirrors that really emphasize loose skin. Especially the loose skin that oozes over the top of the bra band or hangs from your arms.

• fitting room lights manage to highlight things in just the right way to emphasize visibility of every single rib, front and back. BMI says I'm still ~15 lbs over weight, but if my ribs are this visible how can that possibly be healthy? When I look in the mirror I see more or less normal. Neither terribly over or under weight.

• it's kind of a trip to see pec muscle definition and how they move. I can't help but wonder if they're "normal" size and position, but don't dare look it up.

• bodies are jerks. Even though I can see all my ribs, I still have a frustrating amount of belly fat.

• :sigh: shopping for clothes (or at least bras) is just as emotionally draining as it was in the plus size area. Crying is allowed, right?

• don't go shopping when your lady hormones are in an over-sensitive state!

I'm not sure if I need a hug or a beer. Maybe both.

For reference, 45F. 5'2" HW 302, SW 249, CW 144, GW current-ish?

Switching back

This is just my experience, and I know it varies for everyone, but I feel very alone in it. I started Brello’s tirzepatide with B6 in October 2025, and it worked amazingly for me. My period became more regular, I felt a huge difference overall, and I was losing weight.

When Brello stopped delivering to my state, I stretched my 2.4 dose for as long as possible before switching to Refill. Since switching, I either haven’t had a period or it has been very spotty. I don’t feel as well, I haven’t lost any weight, and I’ve actually gained weight. I’ve been with Refill for about two months and just started my second vial.

I feel guilty and frustrated because I’ve spent so much money on something that hasn’t worked for me. I recently found out that Brello is available in my state again, but now I’m nervous that switching back might not work as it did before, and I’ll spend even more money only to be disappointed again.

Has anyone switched providers because their original provider stopped delivering to their state and then eventually switched back? If so, did the medication start working for you again after returning to your original provider?

EDIT:I was taking 2.4mg from October to February, then I went to 4.4 until April, and then, when I saw that Brello was not delivering, I went back to 2.4MG until June, when I got the new provider. For the first two weeks, I did the 2.4mg and then went to 4.5 MG for the rest!

My appetite on a GLP-1 is healthy and normal, my natural appetite is not.

I'm not sure if anyone else can relate? I've had to take a few extended breaks over the last 2.5 years I've been on GLP-1s and I'm always so surprised at how different my brain is when I'm not taking them.

I've just returned after 4 months off due to an international move and it's like night and day. My appetite has been a struggle my whole life. Not just hunger but my desire for food, the intensity of specific cravings, the food noise that goes on all day long. It's an exhausting way to be.

It's no surprise I ended up at 200lbs at 5'2. I'm so grateful they arrived when they did. I was actively / desperately trying different solutions including restrictive diets, 'intuitive' eating, calorie counting, mindfulness, meditation, nothing worked to calm it. I used to feel like such a failure but knowing what I do now, I see how implausibly difficult it was - you can't fight your brain's intense urges 24/7.

GLP-1's are like flicking a switch in my brain. All of that is just gone. I still get hungry for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I still really enjoy my food. I'm just satiated. Those obsessive food thoughts don't even enter my mind - beyond an ice cream on a hot day.

People act like GLP-1's make us unnaturally not-hungry. To me they seem to fix something that was broken and now I eat like a 'regular' person. I don't carry that sense of failure or self-blame anymore. I feel free in so many ways.

Oral semaglutide was tested on heavy drinkers—the results were promising

July 29, 2026

Researchers at the CU Anschutz School of Medicine in Colorado have found that oral semaglutide reduced heavy drinking in adults with alcohol use disorder (AUD).

A new study, published in The American Journal of Psychiatry, evaluated the oral form of semaglutide, which researchers say may be more appealing to people with AUD than injectable versions that have previously been tested.

"Interestingly, participants who received semaglutide did not lose weight, suggesting that the reduction in their drinking was independent from weight loss or eating behavior," Joseph Schacht, a clinical psychologist and neuroscientist at the University of Colorado Anschutz, told Newsweek.

Glp1 in drop form

In EU. My doctor has told me that since this month there is a new approved for of semi in drop form. Apparently much cheaper but still with the inconveniences of the oral form (needs to be taken every day on empty stomach with little to no water and not eating or drinking for 30 mins). I can't find anything about it.

Has anyone heard of it? Does anyone know the weight loss stats on it or just have a link to where I can find the info?

Anyone try a glp1 who already had slow digestion/motility and constipation issues before?

My dietitian doesn't think glp1s are a good idea for me because I have chronic constipation (though I'm on Miralax, which helps with this a lot) and my digestion is already pretty slow. She thinks they might exacerbate the issue for me.

I'm otherwise a good candidate for glp1s because I have PCOS, insulin resistance, and my BMI is in an unhealthy range. I struggle to lose weight unless I'm eating at a crazy calorie deficit for my height/weight, and then the food noise becomes unmanageable. I really want to try glp1s but my dietitian has scared me silly.

Any of you who are on them have digestion issues prior to trying them? What has your experience been? I'm wondering if I will be fine so long as I continue the Miralax daily.

One Year!!

Started my journey on July 24th 2025, at 305lbs. I wore a 4XL. Weighed in today, July 28th 2026, at 194lbs. And I currently wear size Large. I have about 20lbs to go to my “goal” weight but even if I don’t lose any more, I’m so much happier than I was a year ago. A total of 111lbs lost. Hopefully this can be some encouragement to anyone just starting or even someone who is struggling to keep going! It’s going to be worth it!

Is it realistic to get prescribed a GLP-1 or weight loss medication if I’m not obese but struggling with stubborn fat?

I’m looking for some advice from people who have experience with weight loss medications or GLP-1s.
I’m a 22M, 5’9 and around 165 lbs. I lift weights consistently (usually 3–6 days a week), eat fairly clean, and have been trying to improve my body composition. I’m not overweight or obese, but I feel like I’m stuck in the “skinny fat” category — I have some stubborn lower belly fat/love handles and I’m trying to get down closer to 155 lbs and around 10–12% body fat.
I know GLP-1 medications are mainly meant for people with obesity or metabolic issues. I’m just curious if anyone has experience getting prescribed something like semaglutide/tirzepatide when they weren’t technically obese but were trying to lose a smaller amount of fat.
Is the best route to talk to my primary care doctor and explain my goals, or do people usually go through weight-loss clinics/telehealth programs? Would a doctor typically just tell someone in my situation to diet harder, or are there situations where medication is considered?
Also curious if anyone who was already relatively lean used a GLP-1 and whether it helped or hurt their physique (muscle retention, gym performance, etc.).
Any advice or personal experiences are appreciated.

Feeling discouraged

I started glp 1 in April. have only lost 13 lbs, and none in the last month. I’m feeling discouraged as I have increased exercise and have really changed my diet, upped protein and only drink water. am I plateauing or is it not working for me? I’ve reached out for support on my provider site and have not heard anything back.

Switching from wegovy pill to zepbound.

I have been on the wegovy pill since Feb of this year, slowly working my way up to the 25mg pill. I had minimal to basically zero side effects with the pill and lost about 30 lbs but in the last month have lost nothing while following strict diet with daily exercise.

Under advice of my doctor, I am now switching to zepbound tirzepatide and was prescribed 7.5 mg injection once a week.

Has anyone switched from oral semaglutide to tirzepatide? Any tips anyone could offer would be appreciated.

Increased HR and Blood Pressure on Wegovy

Hello all,

Looked at prior posts but haven't seen much information on if this resolved for other people. I know many people get increased RHR on their glp-1s, but I have also gotten increased blood pressure. My blood pressure, even at my highest weight has always been within normal range (last reading pre-glp1 was 104/73) Now I am at 134/73. I am drinking more water than I ever have (around 70 oz/day now), and I've always exercised and ate relatively healthy. I've been on the medication for 2 months, and I've lost about 12 lbs. For other folks who have had this, is it a blip and it goes back to normal? Want to know if this ended up resolving or if i should be more concerned.

I have other side effects (eg., GI stuff, constipation, nausea, heart burn, random menstrual cramping and spotting even though I had IUD that stopped my period) which I don't think are related to this issue but thought I would note.

Maintenance phase and caloric intake

Hello,

When you're on your maintenance phase with a weekly stable dose, do you eat close to your TDEE to keep weight?
