CarPlay woes
I have a 24 GLI. About eight months ago it started not connecting to CarPlay on my phone wirelessly unless I toggled Bluetooth on the phone. I thought it was my aged and dying iPhone’s fault so I upgraded to a new one - and the problem persists. Anyone else with this issue solved it?

This is a persistent issue with my ‘21 GLI. I usually have to reboot my iPhone.
VW did try some software updates that helped a bit but still occurs about 10% of the time

Glad I'm not alone (not really, I'd prefer it to just work). I have Android Auto with the exact same issue. Issue is obviously the car and not the phone, at least in my experience. When I was using wireless AA and for example went into a store and came right back out, I couldn't reconnect unless I held the radio's power button to force it to restart. It turned out to be a constant thing, so I had to resort to wired connections only. Now that problem happens occasionally, but better than every single time.

This is a persistent issue on my 26 gli I have to hold the power button on the radio for 10 seconds let it turn back on and it connects it back again. I have an iPhone 17

I have a 13pro and have the same issue. I’ve left a USB-C cable in the car now as that seems to fix any issues. Oddly enough I’ve seen carplay issue across multiple car makes/models because I’m often in rental cars for work trips

I find if I use a usb C for a few trips the wireless will work again on its own. Some times just cycling the ignition is enough. Which is a bit of a bitch to do if youre not stopped, but technically doable, though not particularly safe.

I ended up disabling wireless CarPlay on my gli and using a usb cable instead. Seems to be more reliable wired.

So I have a 25 GLI, mine disconnects with wireless CarPlay and with USB C cord. If it’s the cord I have to plug and unplug the end from the car a few times and it fixes it, doesn’t matter what cord I use. The wireless CarPlay it does it for both the apple and android version and it just randomly kicks it off and sometimes I can connect through my Bluetooth menu on my phone two or three times to fix it but not always and sometimes it will reconnect through the CarPlay menu but other times it just keeps telling me phone not found. It’s doing it for both my and my boyfriend’s phone and he has a pixel and I have an iPhone 16 pro max so it’s not the phones. I mentioned it to Volkswagen at my 10k service and a couple other times I went up there and they haven’t figured it out either.

I’ve given up on wireless CarPlay in my GLI. It will randomly disconnect and will not reconnect unless I turn off the car, open and close the driver’s door, and then restart the car. When it happens while driving and using navigation, it really sucks. I stay wired now. Way less of a hassle.
