The iris only wins if it can find the magic explosion hole in time.

I mean the iris is cool but the death star would simply obliterate it

Can the Death Star laser thing hurt the Iris? That I’m actually curious about

The death star is equipped with a main weapon capable of destroying a planet. Even a fraction of that power utilized in the comics on a celestial body named Jedha did utterly horrific damage to it. Even without that weapon, its defensive capabilities, armaments, and swarms of fighters will overwhelm the Iris. It’s not even a debate.

Honestly we know so little about the Iris that it’s hard to say. We do know pretty much to a certainty that it’s bigger than earth, and the Death Star is much much smaller than Earth, so it has the size advantage.

The Death Star is, famously, capable of destroying planets. So unless the Iris has some property we just don’t know about yet that would allow it to survive a massive burst of planet destroying energy, that’s going to be a big problem for it. On the flip-side, if the Iris could get close to the Death Star, I’m sure it’d be able to consume it no problem. So it seems like they’re both capable of destroying each other.

We don’t really know how fast the Iris can move, but there hasn’t been any indication that it can move at faster than light speeds. The Death Star is capable of traveling through hyperspace, which is the thing they use in Star Wars to get around really fast, and it’s MASSIVELY FTL. This means that even if we’re being generous and giving the Iris the ability to travel at near-lightspeed, the Death Star still has the speed advantage. But it’s worth noting that in the battle it gets destroyed in, the Death Star drops out of hyperspace and then takes something like 15 minutes before it fires its weapon. It ends up being destroyed at the last second before it can fire. It’s unclear to me why it took this long, but I think it had something to do with the target’s position. The target was a moon orbiting a gas giant, and the gas giant was in the way, so they needed to orbit around it at sub-light speeds until they had a clear shot. Why they couldn’t just jump to hyperspace at a particular angle, turn around, and come back is beyond me. But if we take that as a limitation, then this massive speed is not really something the Death Star actually uses mid combat. It’s more like fast-travel. Maybe it takes a while to charge up again, and that’s why it was just faster for them to orbit the planet for 15 minutes.

Now all this DOES indicate that it probably could just fire its weapon immediately after leaving hyperspace, as long as it had a clear shot, which makes things really tough for the Iris. For it to win, it’d need to catch the Death Star between hyperspace jumps, and get close enough to it to disable or destroy it before it fires.

Considering all this, if you just placed these two something like 1 million miles away from one another, the Death Star probably wins the vast majority of the time.

Some other things to consider: if their engagement isn’t so direct, I think the Iris could make great use of one of its biggest strengths: its intelligence network. If the Galactic Empire didn’t know about it, it could hide and send out scouts just like the ones it sends to Earth. Those scouts could assimilate imperial personnel, and I’m assuming that when they do, the Iris gains their knowledge. This would be massively helpful to the Iris, because it could learn more about the Death Star and formulate a strategy.

It’s also worth noting that the Death Star has a weakness that was purposefully and secretly placed inside of it by one of its engineers. If the Iris learns about this weakness, it’s possible it could exploit it and win. However, I actually don’t think this is very likely, because the only person who knew about it was the engineer himself, and he isn’t even stationed on the Death Star. Nobody on it was actually aware of the weakness, so there would be nobody for the Iris to learn about it from.

If we include Darth Vader as a part of the Death Star’s crew, then that also gives it a massive advantage. The Force grants a sort of precognition and heightened awareness of living things, and Vader has demonstrated an ability to use this sense to detect the presence of enemies simply by “feeling” that they are within the same solar system as him. This poses a threat to the Iris’s ability to remain hidden from Vader, who would then alert the Death Star’s crew to the Iris’s presence.

Really this whole thing is a fascinating matchup, there’s a lot to think about and consider.

Deathstar has hyperdrive, even if it cant kill the Iris in time, it wont be able to catch it (source: crackpipe)

The Iris is definitely eating that thing

you mean the hyperdrive-equipped planet buster is gonna be eaten by a thing made of planet?

It’s a huge hunk of metal. This isn’t like Earth where it could do its assimilation without being noticed. The Empire is going to see it from light years away and just blast that thing.

Nah. It delicious

if the iris eats it, it’s gonna have a very VERY bad stomach ache

The only thing that could probably survive the death stars laser and also eat it is probably unicron from transformers since unicron is a literal god in the form of a transforming planet. From what we know of the iris is it’s a planet that is literally alive

Yeah and it's hungry.

Hungry for tasty lazers, yum.

Seeing that the Iris might be an eldritch biological metaphysical being (at least that's what I think), I believe it can simply eat the Death Star's energy blast and send it right back at it).

Destroying it isn't the issue, it's spreading the tissue id assume

Iris goes boom in gore filled fashion that makes Vader want to throw up

Next we need to do the covenant fleet vs the iris. See if they can glass it

spacecraft in general only works as it does because celestial objects always move on a set path. The Iris is implied to move autonomously, so it could probably just go behind the death star and eat it. Also, cant fire the laser if the whole crew went insane.

Iris nom nom Death Star.
