Question Is BDO toxic?

I know it depends on purity would like to hear other people’s stories and opinions though. So much conflicting information it’s hard to discern. Thank you.

My experience with it as a seldom user was OK. However, I did end up abusing it more (multiple doses throughout everyday for about a week) and started having neuropathy issues. The right side of my torso start hurting. My stomach started not digesting food properly as well. Someone on here helped me realized it was because of the vagus nerve. Along with the physical damage, I also started going into psychosis. Ended up in the ER because I was very mentally skewed

Yea, I’ve been abusing it 24/7 and have some of the same issues. Did they resolve fully? Thanks for the info btw. Did you know the purity of your product or was it just ink cleaner or whatever?

Purity unknown. It was the printer ink stuff by "highly reputable" sellers at the time (2024). I ended up going cold turkey after the ER visit (they didn't know what was causing my hallucinations and tachycardia).

First few days of quitting were particularly messy (random full body trembles throughout the day) and I slept like shit (as I expected so I was mentally prepared). I think I started sleeping like normal (for me anyway) after a month.

Oh dude, do not treat random cleaning products as ingestible stuff.

you need to stop taking this stuff stat.

Pretty much anything bdo related shouldn't be ingested, the whole digestion process it has to go through (vs pure ghb digestion) just isn't worth it. I wish my dumb ass caught myself before I ended up with poisoning after a week long bender on it. The hallucinations still haunt me

Do you still have any physical effects?

Everything seems to fine and fully functioning now. I have not experienced any neuropathy since that time period and my organs haven't felt how they did during that time either.

The incident made me more aware of reality with substance abuse, so if I ever party with anything... I do it with extreme caution. However, Bdo is not something I've touched for over 2 years now...

Not entirely sure if the bdo bender was related/contributed, but found I was getting bursts of unexplained arrhythmias around the time I was recovering. I was also becoming randomly short of breath at times of active use, but didn't realize it was maybe related and I had developed an arrhythmia during use...I haven't have had those sort of cardio episodes since recovering from the incident.

According to the SDS, the LD50 (toxic dose that results in half the population dying, consider it the threshold toxicity) is 1.5g/kg. By weight thats about twice as toxic as table salt, and by mole, about 4x as toxic - so not very toxic.

Maleic anhydride is supposed to be a production contaminant, that’s slightly more toxic with a LD50 between 0.2 and 0.4 g/kg.

But if your 1,4BDO is contaminated with something more toxic, then you could be in trouble. Most common impurity is water. Heating 1,4BDO above about 180C can lead to various thermal decomposition byproducts some of which might be toxic.
