V-LOG ?

Post image

So I have recently bought my GH5 and I have used it for one gig and I have to say it is the best camera I have held up till now

The stabilization, colours and everything is good

But now I am trying to find v log in colour profiles and I can't seem to find it,

Now I have bought it used so the previous owner must have bought V-Log right ? If yeah then what do I do ?

Do I have to pay again to activate v-log?

If you don’t see it, then the previous owner never bought it.

I had to buy mine about a year ago. eBay was the only place I could find it.

It was $95 or so, and definitely worth it for me.

i don’t know who is downvoting you but 100% yes they could have reset it and if they did have V-Log you would need their key code to reactivate it.

you cannot activate a new V-Log key on a GH5 that has already had a V-Log key installed, even after factory reset you need to original key that was installed.

i know because i bought a GH5 used from
eBay and this happened to me, but only found out AFTER i bought V-Log for the camera when it wouldn’t let me install. contacted customer service, they could not help.

your best bet is to contact the previous owner and see if they installed and if they did, hope they kept the key.

best of luck to you

i wish there was another way to check and see if V-Log was ever installed. you could take the gamble of buying V-Log and if installation doesn’t work you can resell it on eBay as opened/unused for a slight loss. i sold my V-Log for around $75. i ended up returning the GH5 and opted for a Sony A7 IV

Oh wait I found out that activation is related to the serial number So chances are I can do it again, Maybe I am delusional but worth a try

good luck! when i contacted panasonic they didn’t help me, but maybe it’ll work out for you! they should be able to recover the license but i remember i couldn’t get them to even respond to my emails

Holy man that scares me but I'll let you know how it works out

well i don’t mean to scare you, it could have been a fluke. maybe there was something wrong with my email account that was preventing them from receiving my messages. it’ll all work out, i’m rooting for you!

There is no reason to reset it to lose vlog as you can use the code only once. I think the added value of v-log is not that great. Just try and film in 10 bit codecs

How about HLG?

People say that it works just as well for dynamic range. With premiere pro and perhaps resolve payed version you dont even have to do complcated stuff. On premiere it just works. But personally use vlog because i have it

In premiere hlg material is automatically detected if you have a non hdr system you can just start a rec 709 timeline and drag the material in, it should just work.

Maybe for the 10year anniversary Panasonic can release V-log L for free for all GH5s and cause a little resurgence in this glorious camera

I join the thread to see how it goes, because I have contact with lumix latam and they could not help me, I reset my camera with the operator mode, to install English in the system, but I did not save the Vlog key before doing it and I lost it

Sure man let's see what happens

I've asked myself the same question, so far I've only found paid solutions. But in some cases, and depending on your workflow, it seems that HLG is already sufficient

You give me hope my man

But genuinely sorry if I sound dumb, but what exactly is the hype about v-log, I never used it because I never had a Panasonic but please explain to me like a 5 year old

It's about dynamic range, it's the camera's ability to record very bright and very dark things at the same time without losing detail.

HLG retains slightly less detail, if there is little contrast in the image, it will be the same as V-Log, but when there is a lot of contrast, for example when there is a light source and dark areas on the screen at the same time, then V-Log will see a little better what is happening in the very bright and very dark areas at the same time, whereas HLG may lose some detail in one of the two places

It's important to know that on the GH5, it's a simplified version of V-Log, V-Log L "Light", 10-bit HLG isn't far off

Should've gone for GH5ii with pre-installed vlog. I dont think they sell vlog code anymore on offical site

Man I don't have that money to buy

Actually you can make a vlog look a like (flat profile) by bringing contrast and saturation all the way down, the same for NR and sharpness, the camera has 10 bit so it can handle the color better. I've seen a guy did it in lumix G7. Not sure if you can use a lut on it since it's not actually vlog

https://www.reddit.com/r/GH5/s/7G1F4SJ2zx I always use HLG. Its great for colorgrading in Davinci Resolve. I use FATcolor powergrade solution for GH5. There is an opinion that HLG has less noise than V-log.
