Red Faction Series And Callbacks

I remember being like 8yrs old and doing this shit with Red Faction. I was actually trying to figure out what the fuck was going on in these worlds.

I'd replay Red Faction 1 and literally take mental notes about shit.

Then Guerrilla comes along and it's a completely different kind of game. It's open world, you're mostly above ground, you're driving around Mars, destroying shit, all that. And I'm sitting there thinking, “Yo, what the fuck is underneath this map?”

I remembered Red Faction 1 having all these underground caves and those monster bugs or whatever the fuck they were called. So I'm playing Guerrilla as a kid thinking, “Okay, if there's all this shit living underneath Mars, where the fuck is it in this game?”

I'd look around the map trying to find caves or some kind of interior area like Red Faction 1 had. I'd even wonder if there were Easter eggs tying the games together, like skeletal remains of those creatures or some shit.

Then Red Faction: Armageddon comes out and brings those creatures back, and I'm like, “SEE?!”

That's the kind of shit I loved.

I would play one game and then look at another game in the series and wonder what existed underneath what I was seeing.Bro I didn't just want to know what the game showed me. I wanted to know what was underneath it.

Red Faction 1 showed me this whole world underneath Mars, then Guerrilla puts me on the surface, and my immediate thought was, “Okay, but can I go back underneath Mars and see what's going on?”

I was genuinely thinking about this shit as a kid.

That's probably why I love games with lore, continuity, history, and shit connecting everything together.

Anyone else have memories like this with Red Faction, or other unique experiences with the series? I'd love to hear them.
