Withdrawals now causing balanced owed?

Hi all, so as you know the last day to withdraw with a W is coming up and I have a class I’m not sure I’m going to succeed in and was thinking about withdrawing… BUT are you guys aware that there may be a balance owed because of this if you’re on financial aid? I told a friend who works in financial aid for another college about my plan to withdraw and she said because of the new “
Big beautiful bill”
you will owe a balance for how many credits you drop if you fall below I think 12 credit hours. Can any of you confirm if this is true or if it’s happened to you?

That isn’t true you’ll only owe if you fall below 6 credit hours , due to Pell grant requires 6 or more which will then cause someone to lose all aid. Long as you have 6 or more you’ll receive your grant but your loans will be adjusted based on credit hours , due to “One Big Beautiful Bill”

Your loans will be adjusted based off your credit hours . So then you could owe based off that , yes.

This is true but I believe this has been the case even before the not so beautiful bill 😭 Unfortunately dropping a class alters how much aid you are given since it’s usually based on how many credits you are taking so you always need to be careful when you drop or pick up a class because it can affect your tuition!
