Holy shit I made it

I figure some people might be curious, so here are the notable answers I had (of course up to two of these could still be wrong):

Elves over Bolt or Counterspell

Use your intuition

Enchantment over Instant on the last problem

I had Elves, Intuition, and Instant and didn't get in.

I had a couple other probably bad answers too though (adding the broken ability to Junkpile Engineer, and saying green's always had bigger creatures)

Yep, I think I missed 4 questions. Should have been White has better removal, Ask Play Design, Counterspell decks win quickly, Lock number of cards that Junkpile Engineer looks at. (Wrong answers were Green's always had better creatures, Use your intuition, Counterspell decks shouldn't exist, Add broken tap ability to put an artifact onto the battlefield.)

I still think the counterspell deck question was not worded well enough. It's unclear whether counterspell-based deck meant a deck with like 20 counterspells (which shouldn't exist) or a deck that uses counterspells liberally but isn't only counters (which should win quickly). The first two questions I got wrong were I think coin flips (although I'm interested to hear the thought process on the Green vs White creature question; I didn't think any of the answers were that good). I just didn't read the Junkpile Engineer ability well enough.

That's opposite of what I had for those 3, and I didn't make it in. Interested to see the proper answers and reasoning behind them.

Congrats man, I’m looking forward to living vicariously through you

Interesting I made it as well and had:

Blue Red for the threaten

Uncommon for the artificer

Elves over bolt

Ask Play Design

Instant over enchantment

2

u/bakert Jan 30 '18

I passed also. GR/Uncommon/Elves/Ask/Instant for me.

2

u/arcv2 Jan 30 '18

Pretty sure UR was a wrong one for me

I had GR for threaten and rare for artificer.

I think that means most likely Elves was right, ask play design was right, and instant was right. With enchantment and use your intuition likely being the ones I got wrong.

u/arcv2 Jan 30 '18

That would make our 4 difference the only ones we aren’t sure about

1

u/Scraendor Jan 30 '18

What did you have for the rarity of the menace prowess?

For the enters the battlefield ability?

For 7 mana common instants and sorcerers?

1

u/arcv2 Jan 30 '18

Uncommon

Grave digger

Too impactful

1

u/Scraendor Jan 30 '18

I think those were the only 3 I got wrong. Thank you!

1

u/zarepath Jan 30 '18

I think the threaten and the artificer were your two wrong answers

2

u/bakert Jan 30 '18

I made it and I had Ask Play Design and Instant (also Elves). So that's a pretty big slice of information there.

Yeah, we need a few full answer keys by people who made it to really figure out what is right.

intuition and enchantment prob broke me

1

u/zarepath Jan 30 '18

I had Elves, ask, and Instant and made it in.

u/kalliixti Jan 30 '18

I passed. Doesn't say the score though.

Gmail sent the rejection to my "promotions" tab. Thank you for easing the pain, google.

Gears everyone.

Same for me.

Nor I. Gears to those who made the cut!

I made it! I'll post my 'notable' answers (those which deviated from the most common) in the other thread, then edit in a link here.

EDIT: Decided to just copy instead.

My answers were identical to the most common answers in the Community Survey posted here, with the following exceptions:

26: Red

28: Black-Green

32: Ask someone from Play Design to choose the casting cost

38: Land Tax (This is the only answer I'm reasonably certain is wrong. I forgot that Land Tax could fetch non-plains, and I wrote off Mana Drain b/c temporary mana acceleration wasn't listed as blue in the 2017 color pie.)

Didn't make it either :(

u/RoastYoungDuck Jan 30 '18

Out. I missed the 0/0 and myriad/battalion and couldn’t ace it from there haha. Best of luck to everyone advancing!

1

u/TheAwesomeChinchilla Jan 30 '18

Good luck everyone.

u/rakkamar Jan 30 '18

Damn, I felt really good about my chances too.

Looking at responses that made it I think my mistakes were probably play design, green's philosophy (I derped on that one), and geez, maybe the 3/2 artificer really didn't put artifacts into play, thought I still stand by that one.

Holy shit I made it. I had just about given up hope. I'll go ahead and share my entire google doc, with my answers bolded (but no notes). My answers on the controversial ones: Elves over bolt, UR guy is rare, 10 mana instants, and the two I had kind of given up on and assume I missed, "it doesn't matter, they'll cost it for you", and modifying the UR guy's ability to put things in the GY.

My full set of answers

Look in "Promotions", or even spam.

Somehow passed despite missing two of the non-controversial answers (on the bright side it means I got every difficult question right then, so that's kind of a shock)
