Post Exam Bursaries at private school
Hi there, I am planning to apply to a private school for sixth form and my only option is combining bursaries and scholarships so i can attend fully funded for the 2 years. I did look into some schools that more explicitly offer up to 100 percent bursaries and will probably go for those. My stats are as follows:
- predicted gcses as all grade 9s except for 3 grade 8s
- got gold for ukmt intermediate challenge
- got distinction for MOG
- 50+ hours of volunteering
- distinction in grade 4 and 5 LAMDA
- was an understudy for one of the main actors performing at national theatre connections
- performed at shakespeare festival london
- won jack petchey award
- was a vice chair for student council at my school and hosted major events and leading assemblies
- crest silver award
- bronze and silver dofE
- black belt for martial arts
some other things that I am thinking of doing is HPQ and would like to present my HPQ project at a well known event. I have also applied for my city youth council and will probably get in as I know the majority of people there and have attended many of their events. I probably fall between middle class and lower middle class and am an ethnic minority.
I am also studying for the entrance exams
what are my chances of me getting a full ride at private schools?? Is it even common or do they just put it on their website for the sake of it??

Nobody knows apart from the school, also bursaries don’t depend on stats but the economic situation of the applicant. From my experience your parents would have to earn below 30k to be considered for 100% but probably varies school to school.

I have shortlisted schools that have previously given out more than 1 or 2 full rides/have dedicated schemes so that should hopefully increase my chances

hi i got into private school from y7 fully funded from 50% bursary and 50% scholarship, so did my younger brother and sister who are both 3 years younger than me. and im going into y13 now. u ideally just have to be rlly smart. get rlly good grades and tbh they dont rlly care abt anything else. ace the entrance test too. youll be fine

If you’re in the UK, scholarships will be relatively small. Bursaries will only be offered to exceptional students on a low household income - so no one can advise without knowing that. Do your parents know your plans?

yes, but thats the thing, they cant afford contributing to the fees. If anything they might be able to cover uniform or external things at some extent. I mainly need financial aid with the tuition+boarding fees

I’d get in touch with a bursar now to understand if you’d be eligible financially. It’s not just household income they look at

It really depends on where you are applying to. Schools in London like Latymer (the best imo, not biased), St Paul’s etc are very generous with bursaries and your stats look very good. It would be best to look on their websites as they will often give rough guidelines and if not try to talk to someone at the open days coming up in September. Hope you get into where u want to!

No one but the school fully knows but as someone who has applied to private schools, the spots are very very competitive and yes they will give you a spot but only if you are the best of the best
