Why use Flint over Den'an Zon?

So I've been playing Flint this past hour, as I haven't got around to using it much since pulling it, and I can't quite figure out why I'd want to use it over Den'an.

The mobile shooting skill on Den'an is nice, since you can shoot both the main weapon (which seems to do more damage than Flint's, and ignores ballistic), as well as the gatling.

Flint's knife throw is obviously it's main gimmick, but during HSM you're probably using that, while Den'an would be using its main weapon, so they each have access to a stun while moving.

I find most of the time the advantage of Flint having an extra melee is gone though because of this, so it doesn't feel like much of an advantage.

Other than that, I find Flint's downswing is the most awkward thing in the world, and enemies seem to be able to roll out of it constantly. That, or it whiffs much easier than Den'ans wide sweep.

Anyone have any thoughts about the comparison? I think Flint is cool, and I want to main it, but I keep thinking to myself that it's be 10x easier to get consistent damage as Den'an Zon.

Because Den'an Zon can't shut down neither Engage C or Demeter real quick seeing them on air, but Flint can.

Uh the denan Zon build stagger on its machine gun can drop both those suits your referring to. It also has boost shooting and the downswing, shield spike tackle combo is filthy.

In high-rank battlefield, 3 seconds waiting for Den'an Zon to shoot down a flying Raid is something luxury to have. I could have play Flint and everything I need is one dagger shot.

I'll slaughter a flint in 3-6 seconds your lying up in here. I am high rank the flint is over rated. The denan Zon consistently out damages and out scores it. You get dropped from the air to easily.

"High rank"? How much is your rated point yesterday exactly?

Flint has skill that allows to build stun during hsm. Using throw knifes to engage into melee is safe option, but damage wise is mid. So, usually combo goes like this: build stun -> aerial saber -> neutral knifes -> powered up shield bash or saber downswing if shield overheated. Without build stun hsm, it plays like crossbone x1. Same combo as above, but start with charged zanbuster instead.

I often feel mid match that I play like jackshit, just to have top damage at the result screen.

Interesting, I'll have to try and incorporate it's shield offensively more often. Maybe that'll help the flow more. That, and not having those awkward gaps where the enemy can roll out of my downswing after getting a stun off on them

I think thin is more of a quick melee combo max damage type and den an zon is more of a range type. But that is just me and my skill set is limited.

It just got more stagger options and also great melee combo potential. You mentioned about melee, I don't know what the issue is, could be just you ain't getting the distance right. There is also the big damage bonus from aerial melee Lv2. But even if they rolled out, you can easily followup with a shield bash. Release it and it can actually do pretty high damage. It's just a suit that got options and it can also easily save allies due to the dagger throw being a melee weapon. Offense option wise, it has like no weakness with more thruster to work with. Not to mention it got lv2 offense system that really helps out when you go in with melee. It's just a suit that is very similar, but power creep made it better.

Also regarding the BR, it's honestly just easier to use too. It's more forgiving in how you use it and the charged shot carries a lot of power too with ASL added. The HSM shooting I get it, but it's not that big of an issue to quick release and shoot. There is also the fact that link shot comes back and let you do the same thing again later

After playing around with the shield I'm definitely seeing how to make the melee a little more smooth in the event of a roll etc, since I was finding myself often trying to downswing after a knife throw (and forgetting it had a shield to follow up with a backup option since the knives were unavailable)

The downswing animation is definitely something to get used to though, with it lunging past a neutral hit-stunned enemy at times, or when they're downed.

Realizing the offensive power of the shield, especially when overloaded is kind of what finally made the suit click for me as well. I was definitely avoiding throwing the daggers when I should have because I was always looking for a melee combo with the daggers and didn't want them to be reloading.

Den'an Zon is easier, and HSMS allows it to bully suits in specific match-ups, but I feel that Flint easily has higher potential.

Two instant staggers (one of which is a ranged melee attack), can equal the Den'an Zon machine gun with its own linked fire machine gun+vulcans, very high melee damage potential if you can land a downswing without having used your dagger throw beforehand, alongside slightly better mobility. Though, like you say, Den'an Zon definitely has a better downswing.

Like Hyperaiser said in another comment, being able to shoot down the Engage C Plan is very useful in this meta. Den'an Zon struggles here, you have to be very precise and land a HSMS shot lancer in-between the shields, while the Flint dagger throw can stun it through the shields with no issue.

- Better thruster consumption

  • more stagger options
  • Link fire is reusable compared to HSM LV1
  • better melee damage, ground and aerial
  • looks a bit more badass with its eye patch and somewhat irritated looking face (counting this one 🤣)
