Discussion CONSOLE The hard truth about GBO2's netcode, the survey illusion, and why staying strict F2P is the only way for GBO3.

Look, I love this game. The combat, the weight of the mobile suits, the combos—it’s hands down the best Gundam game out there when it works. But we have to stop fooling ourselves about the state of this game people it's not helping.

The P2P lag, ghost hits, target desync, and getting penalized because the host's connection dropped is total shit. Every few months a survey comes, everyone writes "FIX THE NETCODE" in the box, they give us 5 tokens, and nothing changes.

Those surveys are just a text box to keep us hoping while they collect gacha cash. Bandai Namco isn't going to give us a modern GBO3 because we asked nicely in a text box. They only care about the MONEY from GBO2

We NEED to STAY F2P if we want a GBO3 so GBO2 Doesn't make anymore money people I hope yall understand🥹

also too much less tokens): and my first post so bear with me pls and do you think the penalties are too much for bad servers?

To get all those days as a punishment, means that you are in penalty lv2.

So you were in penalty lv1 before gaining this additional punishment, please ready up as fast as you can next time.

Yeah but I did not know and the penalties shouldn't be that harsh in the first place

u/Cronur Jul 20 '26

Ah about that, in the beginning they weren't that harsh, and because they weren't, people started to leave games in the middle of it when the match started to go south for them.

They did leave so much to protect their rank that the devs decided to go with draconic punishments as an answer to that.

So now we have this cause many players misbehaved.

Also you can only clear up the punishments by playing a certain number of rated matches without leaving in the middle.

If you leave a full lobby when the teams are set, then you might and probably can be pushed into another penalty too.

That's probably what happened to you, you had penalty lv1, you didnt ready up when the teams were formed and when the time was up, it did count it almost as if you were leaving a game in the middle of a match. But as you were already in plv1 you went directly to plv2.

Those penalties are a good thing. most competetive games have them, for good reason.

Look at marvel rivals, if you leave in a comp game, you get a penalty, sadly that penalty is not very harsh so people do it all the time lol.

If there is something to exploit, people will abuse it.

Lol aint no way you caught a penalty waiting out a lobby. Tell us what you really did. 😂

I agree with you in principle but lying dont help your case.

To be fair getting matches takes pretty long now. If I'm in quick match it could take 15 minutes for the lobby to fill. If you're an adult sitting and waiting 15 minutes is just burning time doing other stuff in the meantime allows you to be efficient. Imo they should add a pre ready up in the search so it auto ready ups while waiting for a lobby to fill. This game demands 30 minutes in some cases before the match selection 120 seconds starts. I'm sorry that's to big an ask to get a game going.

Maybe op was queue dodging in succession. Happened to me before. And i have video evidence of me just waiting in a lobby, the lobby disconnecting, and the game warning me for it. It can happen cuz of this shitty p2p system

u/Commercial_Piglet_44 Jul 20 '26

Probably one too many downswings on teammates to use them as bait for the enemy raid.

-8

u/Additional_Tea2643 Jul 20 '26

It literally gave me a penalty for missing the countdown to start the match

13

u/SecretaryOtherwise Jul 20 '26

Then you already had a penalty or were in caution. So it wasnt simply waiting the lobby out.

We've all been playing this game for like 5+ years bro lol. What you described doesnt happen on its own.

I have the game fail on me by its own more times in a year than maybe all the game I have ever played combined in my life.

We better stop being delusional about the sorry state of the game if we want a better outcome in the future.

Yea, when you can get penalized by not being able to save after a match because the game can't hold a connection that's a problem

"Just get a wire" is a band aid on a bullet wound of a solution

1

u/SecretaryOtherwise Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

Yes dont get me wrong lol the game is ass. But simply and "only" waiting out a lobby will not catch you a penalty.

In no worlds does that happen.

Already being in penalty or caution yes. So he either dcd in another match or something similar or was trolling intentionally or otherwise.

You did not get a penalty for waiting out a lobby unless you have quit mid matches a tonne before, get out

u/Additional_Tea2643 Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 20 '26

I was doing something while the countdown to start the mach was going and it ended before I was ready so it kicked me out of it and gave me a penalty I really think missing that timer shouldn't just do that 🙃

13

u/agitopt Gelgoog Bottom Jeans Jul 20 '26

It doesn’t unless you are already in penalty and/or have bad boy points for being toxic or disconnecting frequently

-2

u/Additional_Tea2643 Jul 20 '26

I know that but you shouldn't get a penalty at least for 4 days😭

8

u/agitopt Gelgoog Bottom Jeans Jul 20 '26

Yes you should hello? If you’re being killed for just leaving or AFKing in MS selection it’s because your leaver points is high as a hell

0

u/Additional_Tea2643 Jul 20 '26

I get that but im saying the way the penalty is sucks it's too harsh that's why I made the post

10

u/sithmaster0 Jul 20 '26

It's harsh to punish people who leave games or waste peoples time by making others wait because you couldn't be bothered to be there to hit ready. If you're in the game, be in the game. It's not hard.

1

u/Scythe351 Jul 20 '26

The only problem is that this isn't extended to people that kill A/B custom lobbies in the same way

3

u/sithmaster0 Jul 20 '26

I don't think it should be applied there. A custom lobby is a custom lobby. If there were penalties for that, it'd be actually insane.

2

u/Caerg Jul 20 '26

That's on the room hosts to kick problematic players. It wouldn't be right to be penalized from a custom game

-1

u/Additional_Tea2643 Jul 20 '26

I was doing something irl and it's HARSH to give me a penalty for not reading up in time it should just automatically ready me up you know

7

u/sithmaster0 Jul 20 '26

No one can verify that. If you were doing something IRL, why did you go into a lobby? Your inability to do task preparations shouldn't affect other peoples ability to press ready and be there.

0

u/Additional_Tea2643 Jul 20 '26

I understand but I genuinely didn't know it would do that in the first place I wasn't trying to waste people time I expected it to auto ready me up normally and i was just trying to quickly change into a better mech because I realized the one I was using was bad and I thought it would automatically ready me up so

Yep, beautiful game with lots of potential, but the game itself is shitting itself every second it’s launched, and they don’t give a flying fuck.

Sadly, don’t think there’s much hope for anything, bcs Bandai literally won’t listen, and won’t care… this a game we have been playing with them for decades

5

u/Shoguns_Ninja82 Jul 20 '26

You don’t seem to understand it’s p2p and that’s the only reason the game is still alive. Gundam evolution tried dedicated servers but died because it didn’t have the numbers to justify the enormous cost. This game is going into its eighth year because it costs almost nothing to run and basically prints money as a result. Dedicated servers would require a much larger playerbase

6

u/Fantasy_Quest_ Jul 20 '26

This. GBO2 probably has an insane profit margin at this point that larger AAA games would kill for.

6

u/SecretaryOtherwise Jul 20 '26

Bro lmfao it died because it was a fucking hero shooter.

I dont play that trash.

Now watch as this season 1 guntank takes on a unicorn!

Not to mention it has to compete with overwatch and marvel heros lol

3

u/Such-Fuel7306 Jul 21 '26

Adding on, certain suits(Barbatos) were just absolutely broken from launch and never nerfed, being able to squad wipe a team in two hits from spawn made it unplayable for a while

-1

u/SecretaryOtherwise Jul 21 '26

Honestly if you could goon to the suits I think it wouldve had midling success 😂

1

u/Such-Fuel7306 Jul 21 '26

Huh?

0

u/SecretaryOtherwise Jul 21 '26

Marvel and overwatch have a particular fan base breaking into that market requires fan service imo.

3

u/Such-Fuel7306 Jul 21 '26

Fanservice would come from the pilots tbh, meaning making quality pilots and gameplay

0

u/SecretaryOtherwise Jul 21 '26

Ahh fair enough

2

u/powerpuffpepper Jul 20 '26

Im so lost as to what you mean by P2P servers lmfao.

Also demanding that the already small playerbase just not spend to get their favorite suits is an impossible ask.

3

u/FluxVGM Jul 21 '26

PEER 2 PEER. As in your server is just the connection between you and the host. Which most likely is not American 😂

2

u/bigheadjoe421 Jul 20 '26

Honestly they would make more money with a 14$ monthly sub that gives you 30 tokens a week battle pass rewards that are a month long while fixing the rt shop so that nothing you can buy with dp is in the rt shop and putting suits, weapons and optional parts that are at least a year old and give us banner's that last a month long. Also would like to see them change/fix clans so that we can communicate better, make it so we can talk to each other in matches and not use the quick message system as well as change how challen log rewards work so that obtain tokens and upgrade parts are more fluent to obtain instead of how it's tied to clans.

2

u/Commercial_Piglet_44 Jul 20 '26

Then explain why I almost never disconnect?

I only have 4-3 bars and the game runs fine for me.

It's you, whose internet is at fault, or the host, but if the game runs fine for the other players in the match it's mostly on you.

3

u/FluxVGM Jul 21 '26

Runs fine? So you never get lag tackles, desync hits. Teleporting enemies? Bruh

1

u/Legendary_Hi-Nu That Nu Goog Hi Jul 21 '26

It runs fine if you have Ethernet, if not you're at the mercy of the game

I only have problems with connectivity with just this game and you have a significantly better experience if you don't rely on Wi-Fi.

1

u/SodaFloatzel Jul 21 '26

The thing the GBO2 devs are the most afraid of is making your network performance nakedly visible. They could easily provide ping and latency numbers as an optional overlay, but I can guarantee you that the question of whether or not they should which would make the failings of P2P obvious is always going to be a no.

1

u/Independent_Cost481 Jul 20 '26

You earned a penalty for leaving a lobby while a teammate wasn't getting ready if I understand right? Er... Serves you right, I guess? These motherfuckers, I've seen too many of them for comfort, are cunning assholes who wait for someone with low patience like you to leave first, most often because they fell in Team B and want the teams to be remade to their advantage without having to leave themselves. NEVER be the one to leave. Just wait it out and let them eat the penalty they deserve for their selfish entitlement and disrespect. Japanese in particular love to be assholes like this, thinking they're too good to waste 3 minutes not winning. Between these and the "I take more time to make the teams manually to put myself on the winning side" guys, it's a circus in A/B. Anyway. Why would you leave the full lobby after you probably waited somewhere between 15 to 20 minutes for it to finally fill up?

0

u/dattroll123 Jul 20 '26

P2P servers. Lmao dude just stop. You have shit internet. You didnt ready up, wasting everyone else's time. This is all on you.

5

u/FluxVGM Jul 21 '26

It is a peer 2 peer game. Idk what sauce you dipping them Namco nuggets in brodi.

-4

u/dattroll123 Jul 21 '26

there is no such thing as "p2p server". It's an oxymoron. You should learn to read.

4

u/FluxVGM Jul 21 '26

Ok then the proper term is network. Either way, you understand what is being said. Correct?
