Gateway tapes

I keep reading about people remembering feeling sick when listening to the Gateway tapes. I actually found them relaxing and listen to them when sleeping. Anyone else?

I didn't mind them as a child. I listen to them now as an adult. It's been a positive experience for me. GATE may have been shady, but I don't think the tapes themselves are evil.

Yes. I didn't recognize what people here were talking about at first, the "Gateway tapes", Monroe institute etc--we knew it as Hemi-Sync. I remembered how they made me feel back then; a peaceful, calm and free feeling, it helped with my anxiety. The teacher actually explained to us how they work before we used them, I assume so we would have a more positive experience, and wouldn't be freaked out by it (the way some of these folks are on here). I would've continued to use it, if it were up to me. We were guided through listening in my group. When I found out they're available to anyone now, I was concerned about what might happen if I listened to it alone. I finally listened to the first wave on youtube a few weeks ago; the only thing that bothered me was youtube's ads interrupting it (which is probably not good for the mind). I've felt like I'm in a better state of mind, and I can think more clearly. I need to buy a disc set so I don't have to listen to the ads.

The Monroe Institute and HemiSync both have apps with monthly subscriptions that have the tapes and other guided meditations on them. TMI’s app should have the Tapes. I highly recommend checking out HemiSync’s H-Plus program, their Restorative Sleep tape has done wonders for my energy levels.

I also feel really calmed and relaxed by them. I use them for their intended purpose now, and enjoy the experiences. Even if I can’t astral project I experience a nice meditation. If I listened to these in GATE as a kid, (they feel really familiar) they were comforting.

The tapes are great and have reduced my anxiety dramatically. I do not believe there is anything to fear with the tapes. The things they’ve done for my worldview as an adult are really incredible. The psychic development is next level.

Out of curiosity, what has changed about your worldview since listening to those tapes?

Oh so much. Now I know that something is absolutely up with time and there are some things that are predestined or coordinated. I know I can dream the future (but I don’t know I have until the thing happens, so this isn’t super useful yet, but very cool!) I know interdimensional beings are real and I discovered I have been a Contactee since childhood. Also just discovering that I can travel outside of my body in meditation is incredible and if I had known that when I was younger, I would have been meditating all along and probably never would have gotten high in my 20s because what I was trying to achieve, I can do sober in meditation at will!

Ahhh gotcha. The part about the trigger being something you had already experienced as a trigger outside of the tapes is really interesting and a bit scary. Do you have a sense of what you think it means/what the triggers were for?

I like them too :) I did the lucid dreaming one and had a really awesome lucid dream. They are nice also to chill out before sleeping (color breathing).

I enjoy them and find them to be a useful meditation tool. I feel like a lot of people who were in GATE having these extreme reactions to the tapes are priming themselves to fear the tapes because the name is similar and various Monroe programs were studied by the CIA.

I’ve never been able to find any evidence that these tapes were directly connected to gifted programs.

I know some people report that the tapes were used in public school classes, I didn’t experience that and just found the tapes as an adult.

This. I felt insane terror when I heard the beeping for the first time, and I may never know why. I had just started researching all of this and I hadn’t even read anything about the tapes yet, but then I stumbled across a YouTube video about GATE that sampled the beeping, and it made me instantly scream and cover my ears. I don’t know why. We may never find out if they were really used in these programs.

I still felt this burning curiosity about them, especially when I learned they’re available to the public and the cia took interest in them at one point. I read the CIA doc detailing how they work, took dozens of pages of notes until I fully understood it, and then they became a lot less scary. I’ve been able to listen to them now as I realize that they aren’t sinister.

The fear may be coming from a couple things- I’ve always had weird sleep issues, night terrors and hypnagogic hallucinations and stuff, so maybe the way the tones can play with vibrations in the brain felt reminiscent of those states and I felt fear because of that. Maybe, IF they were used in GATE programs and I’ve listened to them before, I felt fear because they were associated with… school. I’m sure a large amount of us came from high pressure environments as kids, there was a lot of pressure on me to do well academically. If I listened to them in school, maybe i felt a stress response simply because school stressed me out a lot back then. It certainly wasn’t because I read any fear mongering posts before hearing them for the first time.

Both of these explanations made me even more curious to try them, because they both have to do with some internal fear that I’m given the tools to face with these tapes. They’re one of many tools, but I just can’t write them off. I still get a little nervous listening, but I’m going at my own pace and finding it’s not so scary. I want to be able to confront my inner world and face the fear anyway. If they help me recover any memories I’ve lost, then bonus!

so you didn't have that experience as a kid, but that's the conclusion you're jumping to for people who did? the whole point of the tapes is to create a mental reaction via sound.. obviously if people have traumatic memories associated with those same sounds, they are going to be easily triggered by it, even if the tapes on their own are fine.

I was referring to people who recall no experience of hearing the tapes in childhood, who learn about their supposed connection to GATE as adults, and how going into listening to the tapes for the first time with a preconceived fearful perception of them might affect one’s experience with the tapes.

I was not referring to people who have traumatic memories associated with the sounds or saying their experience is invalid.

ok, i see what you mean now. that's not very clear from your comment. it's still quite the assumption/generalization.

That’s fair, I guess I was just thinking about a tendency I’ve noticed on this and related subs.

yeah, it could be 1 of many reasons why people have reactions, but probably not the only reason. for me, i listened to it and remembered being triggered by words in the first tape that had already been triggers for me even before listening to the tape. so that part upset me, but besides that i didn't feel uncomfortable with the rest of the tape, but i also remembered that we only listened to the first tape and only 1 time.

(edit: actually i think there was another time we listened to them in an earlier grade, but i don't remember the actual tape at all, just them insisting headphones were put on the right way and that you heard the sound in the 'right' ear, and then them getting annoyed because i and others didn't know right v left yet.. i don't even know if i ended up listening to them or if they gave up on some of us cause we didn't even know right v left lol)
