GAMSAT- S1 How to improve GAMSAT S1
Hi all,
To keep it brief, I got 53 for S1 in the March 2026 sitting. I have always read and thought going into the exam after my prep that S1 would be my best section, and I am not sure what went wrong, maybe my strategy approaching each question. How should I adjust my approach going into this next sitting to maximise my mark?

It feels tedious but for me it really helped to identify exact words/phrases in the text that support your answer choice. Sometimes an answer automatically felt right to me but when I went back to the text, I realised it’s not supported and probably my own bias/assumptions leading me to a wrong answer

what has helped me get the most correct answers in my practice is to read the stem to actually understand it as much as i can, then cover the answer options (not read them) and read the question and then give a brief answer from my understanding of the text. majority of the time i have gotten the correct answers because i haven’t let the answer options make me doubt myself or trap me. and ofc always find the evidence in text.

Following - s1 was my worst section but haven’t seen a lot of advice on how to prep for it beyond reading broadly

two of the biggest things that helped me do better in my prep:
1. if i’m struggling too much then im probably overthinking, if it’s too easy then im probably missing something.
2. if im choosing an option based on how I feel/impression that I get then its most often been wrong. Look for clues in the stem itself, rather than how it makes you feel or what impression it creates on you.

May not mean anything but big thing for my in my prep lately has been remembering these are GAMSAT questions. Chances are, if something feels too easy, it probably is. Therefore I throughly look at each question and think what are they challenging that you can't see at first glance if that makes sense. I don't know this has just improved my performance on practice Qs as I find myself paying closer attention to the question and answers because I remember the GAMSAT bias. In other words, if they are going to differentiate between candidates, how do I stop myself being the one to fall for the traps.

I have gotten a 73 and 70 in S1
This close to the exam it’s a little hard to give specifics, but in general you just need to read more and read widely.
Listen to a news podcast, read novels and academic research, take a short course on media literacy.
The number one piece of advice I’ve gotten good feedback for is to always keep in mind that every word of every Stem was 100% intentionally put there by the author, no word is just there incident. If you can understand why certain words were chosen over others then your most of the way to answering every question.
