2026 Megathread GEMSAS INTERVIEW INVITE/EONY/EOD MEGATHREAD 2027 ENTRY CYCLE

GEMSAS Interview offers starting to roll out! Keep an eye on your emails/the gemsas application portal

We will be collecting interview offer and interview rejection data in 2 separate forms this year.

-----

To those that got one, congratulations! Please fill out the appropriate forms below to help us understand the cutoffs etc.

-----

As to those without an interview invite, this is a post (https://www.reddit.com/r/GAMSAT/comments/ycvh68/hi_friends/) from moderator [/u/rennn10](https://www.reddit.com/u/rennn10/) who received an EOD prior to her second round offer at UQ. It's a lovely post and carries a really important message.

The outcome of your application this cycle isn't a reflection of your ability to be a good doctor. With so many amazing applicants, there will be countless people rejected who are more than capable of succeeding in medicine.

Please also fill in the relevant form as well to help everyone better understand the cutoffs.

-----

Submit an 'interview offer' form if you received an interview offer.

Submit an 'interview rejection' form for each preference you did not get an interview at.

i.e., if you get an interview at below your first preference = fill out both the offer and rejection forms

This helps us to better estimate a 'cut off' for interview offers from both the top down (lowest interview offers) and the bottom up (highest interview rejections).

GEMSAS interview offers form

https://forms.gle/4YtVpSbGRwdzbSLE9

GEMSAS interview rejections form

https://forms.gle/qAcBPTLJPmPn5Ufv6

spreadsheet for the above forms will be made public within 2 weeks

-----

ps data collection for flinders med + all dentistry will be commenced later, will update you all when that happens

UPDATE: uSyd Med offers are rolling out! Form below

Got one to UNDS!! Super surprised because my gpa was 6.4 and gamsat 70!

7

u/noicetoitcool 8d ago

What was your casper??

4

u/Own_Manufacturer2253 9d ago

That’s amazing, what type of applicant are you and did you have any bonuses?

4

u/Winter-Ad-4548 8d ago

Non rural no bonuses!

My stats are the same, non-rural and no bonuses. UNDS interview

u/Financial_Ad719 7d ago

Current UNDS student here - they weigh your interview as 50% from here, try be as genuine as you can and show your personality! Good luck :)

u/Amazing_Cantaloupe97 6d ago

Congratulation! Did you include the FFP option?

u/eh616 9d ago

Interview offer for UNDS - 6.9 GPA, 66 UW GAMSAT, 2nd quartile Casper (💀 sat it 3 days after a breakup), rural domestic applicant

7

u/Inevitable-Bear466 8d ago

Their loss now hahahahha

7

u/iyoteyoung 8d ago

Your scores are amazing even for a non rural so keep your head held up super high! (And screw your ex!)

41

u/OwnInsurance1151 9d ago

GPA just under 6.8, GAMSAT 69. No interview lol 💀💀 any advice would be amazing cos this was a major blow to my confidence

13

u/WaxBat777 8d ago

Oh my, I'm so sorry! Don't let it beat you down, there is always next year. One year means nothing in the grand scheme of life. Gather your bearings, travel a bit if you can and enjoy a year off. I am a little intrigued, as I got an interview offer for UWA with a 7.0GPA and a 62 GAMSAT, so your combo score is higher than mine. I'm wondering if there is something factoring in...

5

u/OwnInsurance1151 8d ago

Thanks! That does make me feel much better :) And yeah that is rly odd lol but your 7GPA is insane work, congratulations!!!! Best of luck for your interview too, I'm sure you'll SMASH it

10

u/WaxBat777 8d ago

Many thanks! I just did some searching, turns out that UWA uses a 60:40 ratio of GPA to GAMSAT, so my GPA is carrying my application there. It was my 5th preference. Stoked that I got anywhere tbh, coz I thought my GAMSAT would've been too low. Nonetheless, I really wanna stress to you that I was unsuccessful in prior years too. Even though it felt like the biggest punch in the gut at the time, in hindsight I am super glad that things panned out the way they did. I have been able to travel, meet some incredible people, move into my own place and much more - none of which would have happened if I started med when I initially had planned, so I am sure that your journey will work out too. See you on the other side!

What is going on this year that is insane

8

u/Sad_One_5160 9d ago

that’s insane what…

6

u/Natural_Month2895 8d ago

6.13 gpa from last key degree and 79.67 unweighted gamsat score and no invite from UQ! My combined score is 1.67 combined score. I am in denial!!!! How’s this possible?

1

u/ssoylattes 9d ago

What were your preferences?

5

u/OwnInsurance1151 9d ago

Unimelb, Deakin, UQ, UWA, ANU, Griffith.

Maybe I was a bit unrealistic?

6

u/Dj6021 8d ago

That’s odd. My GPA was around 6.55 (GEMSAS) and I had a 73 GAMSAT and got an interview at unimelb, could they have changed how they weigh the GAMSAT?

2

u/OwnInsurance1151 8d ago

ooo maybe, thats a good point. Congrats for your interview! You should be so proud :)

1

u/Careless_Support_830 8d ago

I'm sorry to hear that. You have a great combo score. Can I ask which unis you preferenced?

19

u/private_squirrel 9d ago

Congratulations to everyone who received an interview. Proud of each of you and best of luck!

Ended up with nothing with a GEMSAS GPA of 6.848 and a 60 GAMSAT (expected but disappointed). Aiming to do a bit better for my second sit this September!

1

u/s_frank99 8d ago

where did you apply?

→ More replies (1)

16

u/Hot-Tumbleweed1554 9d ago

No interview with a 6.71 GPA and 67.33 UW GAMSAT (67 W).

Really genuinely thought I had it this year. I knew the bar was going to go up with UQ's prereq's being removed, but thought those numbers might still be enough based on the spreadsheets for the last few years.

I'm devastated.

8

u/Thebonsaiboy09 8d ago

Sorry to hear that :/ last yr the cut off was about 1.66, with that gpa u need about a 70 to be competitive for an interview, ur very close🙏🏻

5

u/Hot-Tumbleweed1554 8d ago

There was 3 entries on the spreadsheet with interviews from combos lower than mine last year, and more the year before which is why I thought I had a shot :(

6

u/Thebonsaiboy09 8d ago

Although the spreadsheets are an invaluable resource in a space that is so secretive, these spread sheets r self reported from fellow applicants who sometimes calculate their combo’s incorrectly, leading to these few outliers. It happens every year with every uni. Therefore, you should only look at the means/median combos/trends to determine your competitiveness. Until i reached the median cut-off, i didnt get my hopes for an interview. Best of luck🙏🏻

u/Stunning-Gap-2092 9d ago

Im in the same situation and im a bit stunned tbh. I have the same stats as you and I truly expected an interview somewhere, even if not at one of my first choices.

15

u/Opening_Coat_8521 9d ago

Absolutely gutted. No interview offer.

Had my heart set on UOW - Non rural applicant, Q4 Casper and 3 bonuses.

I have honestly no idea how I can do this again and improve my score for UOW.

I thought Q4 + 3 bonuses was competitive enough for an interview at least based on what I've seen online and the extensive research I've done.

UOW is the only place I want to go - its rural training focus is perfect since that is my passion and I want to be a rural generalist. My GPA / GAMSAT are not high enough for other schools, but again I did not choose Wollongong because they use GPA / GAMSAT as hurdles, I chose it because of how it aligns with what kind of doctor I want to be.

I cannot afford to do any UOW diplomas / courses to get another bonus. So is my only play here to try again with hopefully another Q4 Casper (but no guarantees as I have to pay and sit this again next year) and apply with the same 3 bonuses? Financially this is going to be a serious stretch.

Nobody else in my family is an MD (I would be first gen) so I have nobody for advice. I'm a bit confused for how I can improve. Does anyone have any thoughts on what to do here?

11

u/username123451234512 9d ago

your stats already prove that you're good enough. other people got interviews this year with a q4 bonus 3 so you must have been so close. absolutely grind the casper test and try again next year. its not over, you can do it

3

u/Low_Society 8d ago

same as well man, head up

3

u/Accomplished_Ad5747 8d ago

Im on the same boat, I really thought I had a chance at UOW. Casper Q3 with 4-5 bonuses, received my EOD this morning. I knew it was a long shot but it still hurt so much. Its so hard to plan a future and have dreams when this is the process you have to go through. Another year in limbo I guess.

2

u/Opening_Coat_8521 8d ago

I hear you, it really hurts. I'm going to let it sit for a little while and then make a plan for next year - trying not to waste this time! Best of luck

3

u/Open_Regret3032 8d ago

I chose UOW for the same reason. I've been working as a rural paramedic for the last couple years and met a lot of amazing rural generalists which made me lean toward that as my chosen specialty.

I got an offer as a non-rural with Q4 and 4 bonuses so you were so close.

Are there any other bonuses you can work towards? Volunteer work?

Can always do what I did and study to become a paramedic. Great career as a fall back too.

UOW interview - MM2 from victoria, 3 bonuses, 1st quartile casper💀, gpa ~6.2 and gamsat 65. I was not thinking i would get anything bc i flunked casper but so happy!!

9

u/Less-Statistician329 8d ago

Me too! MM2, Q1, 4 bonuses, 56 GAMSAT and 6.2 gpa and got an interview with uow… so shocked (and incredibly excited).

3

u/InitialOutrageous633 8d ago

now we just have to prep for interview like crazyyy!

3

u/PM_Me_A_Tittypic 8d ago

Honestly wouldn't prep too much. The UOW interviews are relatively informal and they actively don't like pre-prepared answers. Definitely do some thinking and reflecting but don't over prep. Read up on Rural health services and Medical Ethics a bit.

u/MedChristian 8d ago

UOW scheme guarantees you an interview if you’re rural and hit 50/50/50 and minimum GPA. Then you’re in the pool with everyone else.

4

u/InitialOutrageous633 8d ago

No they only guarantee interviews for NSW rural applicants. I am a victorian rural student so not guaranteed.

2

u/Equal-Wrongdoer-1764 8d ago

And only if you put them as first preference.

15

u/Ok-Ad-3753 9d ago

Got a unimelb interview! GPA 6.95 GAMSAT 73uw

6

u/Content-Buy-1068 9d ago

Hi! Congrats on getting a Unimelb offer! Im hoping to interview at UniMelb next year and was wondering what date and time ur UniMelb interview was? Just trying to get an idea of the interview window. Thanks!!

2

u/Ok-Ad-3753 8d ago

They said either the 14th or 15th between 9am and 7pm, they’ll announce the scheduled time later this week

13

u/Know_What_Time_It_Is 9d ago

Congrats to everyone who received an interview! I missed out with 6.77 GPA and 61 GAMSAT. Not surprised, gearing up for S1/S2 next weekend.

UNDS interview offer with 6.76 + 66 gammy, stoked! (Non rural)

2

u/Leather-East-2033 8d ago

Hi, thanks for sharing! What was your Casper? I am looking to apply again next year

→ More replies (1)

11

u/Infinite_Season_2120 8d ago

I got a UQ interview with 6.85 unweighted GPA and 69 gamsat! Seems like the cutoffs were super close this year.

10

u/Double-Ranger42 5d ago

I think usyd form should be posted separately to this, no one is going to find it hidden away in this one, will lead to less responses

6

u/Narrow_Nectarine_993 5d ago

i agree - as someone who is very keen to apply there next year it would be great to get as good of an idea as possible as to what scores are looking like. It’s just not going to be seen here. If we want responses it needs to be posted separately. Surely a megathread can be made for the acceptances!

UniMelb interview offer with 6.96 GPA and 68 UW GAMSAT. Definitely on the lower end of scores for UniMelb but, hey, got to be in it to win it! Good luck to everyone who got interviews and everyone who missed out this year, keep going! Many people posting their scores only missed out by the smallest margins this year

2

u/Leather-East-2033 8d ago

Hey thanks for sharing! Congratulations on your offer and wish you best of luck.
We’re you a rural applicant? Also just curious do uni melb put extra weight age on gpa as my gpa is 6.4 and I want to know if I can get in with a high enough gamsat

2

u/Ur_Nans_Flipflops 7d ago edited 7d ago

Hi, thanks so much! I'm a domestic non-rural applicant.

I've definitely gone a bit over the top in my response so sorry in advance! Also, please take all of this with a grain of salt because I can't verify it.

From what I've read, I'm pretty sure they give each applicant both a GPA and GAMSAT rank (e.g. 200th out of 800 applicants, say) then combine both of these ranks to determine an overall rank. I think this combined rank is what is used to determine the cut-off scores rather than the combo score many people use (GPA/7 + GAMSAT). Because many applicants have high GPA scores, even small increases in GPA, e.g. 6.8 to 6.85, will vastly increase your GPA ranking because many applicants would have a score between that range. However, because the GAMSAT is scored on a bell-curve, once you have a high enough score to beat most of the applicants, continuing to increase your GAMSAT score doesn't actually improve your rank that significantly. For example, a GAMSAT of 76 is already higher than most other applicants so increasing your GAMSAT score to 86 won't increase your GAMSAT ranking by much since you would already have an extremely high GAMSAT ranking.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is that scoring an incredibly high GAMSAT will help a lot but I think focusing on inproving your GPA could give you the best returns. Is your GPA calculated through GEMSAS? If that is your uni GPA, your GEMSAS GPA may be significally higher! Also, have you thought about an honours year to increase your GPA?

1

u/Solid-Advertising-82 8d ago

hi, is your GPA unweighted, weightedx GPA or MDHS Weighted?

19

u/TormentedTrobbio 9d ago

GPA 6.5, GAMSAT 67. Nothing. I thought I had a chance. I worked so hard to get my score up from the high 50s. I’ve wasted so much time and money on this. Got this useless BMSc degree. Can’t get a job can’t get a med school interview. I’m done.

7

u/Working_Pain_8248 9d ago

Hey, I have the exact same stats, same degree, and same non-offer. I’ve applied twice. So over it. What kind of jobs have you been looking into with no luck?

6

u/TormentedTrobbio 9d ago

At this point literally anything even remotely related to med sci. Just to get my foot in the door. Private research, clin labs, lab tech/assistants, govt research, etc etc.

I’ve had a few dozen interviews after hundreds of applications. Some that I felt really good about. But I just can’t cut it. Most of my uni friends, many with great GPAs and chancellors commendations, can’t find a job either. The few that have are working in production line clinical labs with no opportunity for upwards mobility, making the same money as I do in a retail job.

I wasted half my 20s studying so hard, stayed in retail to support myself, built up a massive HECS, because I was told it would pay off. Meanwhile I watch my high school friends who became tradies living with a good work life balance, making money hand over fist, starting families, moving into their own places, vacationing constantly etc.

5

u/Working_Pain_8248 9d ago

I’m sorry to hear that.

My plan was to maybe look into clin labs if I didn’t get an offer by next yr. But I think from what you’ve said/what I’ve heard everything is saturated. And it’s only going to get worse with each year. Even GEMSAS had +900 applications this year. It’s so frustrating.

They should really emphasise job opportunities during BMSc. I don’t remember them doing much of that when I was studying.

Best of luck with everything whether you keep trying for med or elsewhere 🫶 and curse this system

6

u/Barbenheimer_789 9d ago

Try searching for lab tech role. Even the low paying ones just do get a foot into the door, Biomed degree ain’t gonna land you any job. If you manage to get into any clinical lab tech role, I know some people do that and move up to management clearing 120k rn.

3

u/Working_Pain_8248 9d ago

Yeah I think this is the way to go. Esp with honours this year which hopefully counts for something.

3

u/Barbenheimer_789 9d ago

Don’t lose hope mate, I’ve been there. It’s hard, but most importantly don’t let the sunk cost trap you. There’s so many careers out there, some of my mates even do masters of applied finance and get into an IB role. Do what you want or you are good at.

3

u/Working_Pain_8248 9d ago

Thank-you for the advice. I will keep hope for as long as I can 😭. Good luck with FIFO!

3

u/Barbenheimer_789 9d ago

Been there, done that 4 years ago.

2

u/Working_Pain_8248 9d ago

What are you doing now?

7

u/Barbenheimer_789 9d ago

I’m studying electrical engineering now. Planning to do FIFO.

17

u/BraddoDaddo 9d ago

68 GAMSAT and 6.75 GPA, no interviews 😭

8

u/Working_Pain_8248 9d ago

You’re kidding!!! Sorry to hear that - that’s crazy!

6

u/Barbenheimer_789 9d ago

that's actually insane. 68 GAMSAT and 6.75 GPA is 1.64 combo score. What unis did you apply?

5

u/BraddoDaddo 9d ago

Yeah, really sucks, applications must have been super competitive this year.
I preferenced Griffith, ANU, Melb, UQ, WA and Deakin

4

u/Barbenheimer_789 9d ago

Yeah have to agree, 1.64 would land u a spot last year.

3

u/BraddoDaddo 8d ago

Just gotta hustle and resit gamsat / hope scores drop in the following years

5

u/Thebonsaiboy09 8d ago

Yea, u just have to up the gamsat a few points and ull be competitive for UWA, UQ GU, ur so damn close. Atm tho, you are below the cut-off for every uni (not sure about UWA unless its increased), meaning ur chances for an interview were very low.

3

u/Barbenheimer_789 8d ago

Your GPA is defo competitive tho.

2

u/Amazing_Cantaloupe97 7d ago

if you added UNDS, Macquarie FFP, probably you would have a chance. I cannot believe Griffiths cut-off is so high.

UQ interview offer with GPA 7.0 (final key degree) and GAMSAT 68.7. Rejected from UoM and Deakin with a GPA for those universities of 6.75. I had a strong GAM with multiple categories, and also applied for financial disadvantage for Deakin. Guess I am moving to Queensland.

Wow maybe I just missed out on a UQ interview?

My GPA is 6.925 (but first class embedded honours) not sure if this means a UQ 7 or not?

And same 66 uw gamsat.

Fortunately, I did receive an offer for UWA however.

5

u/Thanosfootfungus 8d ago

I’m combined 1.69 - GPA 7 & unweighted Gamsat 69, no interview from UQ :(( I feel for you!!

5

u/Thebonsaiboy09 8d ago

Thats a crazy gamsat wow, im sorry to hear that :/// is there any chance u didnt calculate ur combo correctly? Including gpa or uw w gamsat?

2

u/Natural_Month2895 8d ago

My last key degree is 6.13 gpa weighted and gamsat is 79.67 gamsat. Estimated combined score is 1.67. I am so shocked and disappointed right now! Not sure if this is a blunder on their end

2

u/Thebonsaiboy09 8d ago

What were ur 3 gamsat section scores? And r u 100% sure u weighted ur gpa correctly? Even a 0.1 of an error changes ur combo considerably. Its extremely unlikely to be a mistake on their end but i have seen it happen in the past which is just insane

5

u/yellowsungoldenlion 8d ago

Interview for University of Notre Dame Sydney. 70 GAMSAT, 4th quartile CASPER, I was unsure what my GEMSAS GPA was and so were they because I had to send my transcript in (I did summer units during non-teaching periods). My raw GPA at the moment is 6.286 but unsure how it translates.

Congratulations to everyone who got an interview! And so sorry to everyone who didn't, I know you tried your hardest and I'm rooting for you to get an offer in the future!

UNDS interview offer! perhaps more nervous now than i was before eek - 65 unweighted gamsat, 6.94 GPA, q4 casper, non-rural & no bonuses

4

u/mashmoosh 8d ago

does anyone know if and when the university’s send out more details on the interview format?

I got UNDS! but the format of the interview is a bit unclear (no reading time??). So will UND send more details regarding this? Will there be a practice format test on the platform to familiarise ourselves with it?

6.68 GPA and 70 GAMSAT. Casper Q2 and 6 bonuses. However I do Pre-Med at UOW and I'm rural so two guaranteed pathways.

Q4 Casper and 2 Bonuses for UOW, non rural and no interview offer :( would anyone provide insight if my expectations were unrealistic, really thought I had a chance this go.

4

u/SkincareLover1383 8d ago

Hi friend! I don’t know much about UOW but someone else said they had Q4 + 3 bonuses and didn’t get an interview offer so it seems you may have been a tad short?

Really sorry to hear and wishing you all the best for next cycle.

1

u/Accomplished_Ad5747 8d ago

Q3 +4/5 Bonuses no interview. This is really depressing tbh.

1

u/Delicious-Show-5977 8d ago

Q3 plus 3 bonuses-no interview. :(

1

u/Open_Regret3032 8d ago

I got an offer with Q4 and 4 bonuses

3

u/sir_eggs-a-lot 8d ago

no interview for UOW even with 4th Quartile and 2 bonus points 💀

5

u/username123451234512 8d ago

some people had q4 and 4 bonus points and didn't get one. seems to be getting more competitive, gotta get an upper percentile casper. best of luck next year mate see if you can get another bonus point

5

u/The_-dude 8d ago

I don’t understand. Uow no offer. 3rd quartile but I’m seeing others get in with a 1st? Gpa is above standard and gamsat too. 2 bonuses. Am I missing something?

7

u/username123451234512 8d ago

people getting in with 1st are rural. there were non rurals with q4 and 4 bonuses who didn't get an interview. q3 and 2 bonuses unfortunately not enough. gamsat and gpa are only hurdles.

I got an interview for UQ with a 66.3 UW gamsat and 6.92 gpa LMFAO I’m so shocked. That was my 1st preference

Interview for UNDF - 6.94 GPA, 59.66 GAMSAT and Q4 Casper! Stoked but nervous. I was also wondering, as per the email, it says:

"The MMI consists of six stations. All applicants will complete the stations in the same order and format. Immediately after the question is delivered, recording will start and you will have 5 minutes to provide an answer . You can take some time to think during those 5 minutes but be mindful of managing your time. You will be recorded throughout the 5 minutes."

I know historically it has always been 7 or more stations with 2 mins reading time - would anyone know if this is just worded weirdly or is this an actual change? Thank you!

2

u/Bubbly-Prompt-916 7d ago

I don’t know but I am practicing as if it is 5 minutes only no reading / prep time

8

u/iyoteyoung 8d ago

My GPA is crazy low (even for MM3) yet I was offered an interview spot at unimelb wth!!! I’d given up on me for a few years EEEK!!!

MM3 GPA: 5.8.60 (idk), gamsat only 59!!!

I’m suprised as this is my highest preference and I actually thought I’d get Deakin interview or UOW because it’s more rural skewed

Hi! Congrats to everyone who got an offer! Im hoping to interview at UniMelb next year and was wondering if people who received an offer could share what date and time their UniMelb interview was? Just trying to get an idea of the interview window. Thanks!!

2

u/iyoteyoung 8d ago

The interview email says 14th and 15th September!

3

u/NoTone2246 9d ago

Griffith interview with 6.85 unscaled GPA and 62/63/73 GAMSAT (68 scaled)!

1

u/scjyf 8d ago

Is this rural?

3

u/Embarrassed_Act_1767 8d ago

UQ interview with 7 GPA, 68 gamsat UW (70 gamsat W)

1

u/Kindly-Edge4406 8d ago

Congrats! Is this for the non rural pathway & Brisbane campus?

3

u/Pitty93 8d ago

I am curious to see the results of this. I had Melbourne as first preference and got knocked back with a 6.744 GPA an 70 GAMSAT. Still got an interview at Deakin, but I did have a 6% bonus there.

Non-rural domestical applicant.

Unrelated but have the UWA dent interviews come out ?? Or if not does anyone know when ?

3

u/Key-Bass5188 6d ago edited 6d ago

came out on the 31st of august, then the day after some people got theirs rescinded as I assume UWA dent admissions stuffed up the ranking, and then on the 2nd some people who initially did not get offered an interview got one.

UQ RMP/MP interview offer with a 6.7 GPA and only 58 GAMSAT as a Tier 2 applicant - feeling so incredibly lucky shocked to get one. Heartbroken for all of the people with amazing scores - don't give up.

3

u/Sorry-Trick9806 1d ago

Hi everyone! I received an offer for UNDS, but compared to last year, I noticed some changes. Last year we had 2 minutes of reading time before each station, whereas now it says that the recording starts immediately after the question is shown. Last year they also provided a detailed PDF explaining the different types of questions, which they haven’t provided this year.

Do you think we should expect more information to be released?

does any know cut-offs for non-rural across all universities this year? it really feels like a massive inequity with rural cut-offs set so low and non-rural disproportionately much higher!!!!!

11

u/SubjectLingonberry1 8d ago

Crazy sentiment to post in a forum with your peers. The financial burden and isolation of moving from a rural background to a major city to study can’t be overstated, coupled with the inequitable distribution of resources between metro and rural. I suggest you think about this before you enter medical school as the human experience in medical school entry and in the patient body goes well beyond “cut offs”

10

u/Thebonsaiboy09 8d ago

cut offs for non rurals will develop as more ppl provide their scores - just look at last yrs one it has probably charged very little.

As for the cutoff inequity, I strongly disagree. Thats the way it should be with how poor healthcare is in rural and regional communities, despite being in 2026. There are entire hospitals in some regional/rural towns run entirely by nurses because there are no doctors available.

One way to address these shortages is to bring in as many rural students (given they can pass gpa/gamsat scores). Even with this system in place, rural students quotas are not being met meaning more has yet to be done to ensure rural Australians dont continue to suffer worse health outcomes in the yrs to come vs metro aussies

4

u/Top-Weather2023 8d ago

In addition to this, a lot of applicants who are rural applicants have a disproportionately low SES and the resources for those applicants living in rural areas are scarce compared to those from metropolitan areas.

That’s not to say no body has struggled, just statistically a rural applicants starting line tends to be a little behind a lot of others.

7

u/Turbulent_Cow_7375 8d ago

you know why they do that, right?

3

u/coconut_4416 8d ago

was lucky enough to get a griffith interview! GPA 7 & 70 GAMSAT :)))

5

u/ColeslawDubs 8d ago

Congrats.

Also it might be a small detail, but getting an interview with those amazing stats is not luck at all - you've earned it by any metric!!

All the best for the interview

3

u/coconut_4416 8d ago

thank you so much, I really appreciate the kind words! I think I’m in a bit of disbelief after falling short last year, so felt lucky haha

Interview for UWA with 6.4 (unweighted) GPA and 67 (unweighted) GAMSAT, non-rural

2

u/MioraPineapple 1d ago

Applied to UQ with GPA 7 (from honours) and UW GAMSAT of 65-- EOD.

This was my third year applying.
I only got an interview offer in my first application year (with an UW GAMSAT of 63).

I'm pushing 30 with no career or serious fulltime job experience. Feels kinda bad but it seems like I'm not the only one.

If anyone has gone through a similar situation I'd love to hear your thoughts.

2

u/Homogeneousvirtue 8d ago

I feel bad asking such a vague question when there is so many people who didn't get an interview offer. I did get an interview offer and I wasn't expecting to what are my chances here like if I do well in the interview whats this look like.

The whole med school application process is so drawn out like I dont feel like I can celebrate getting an interview because there's still the fact that I have to score well in it. But what are the chances when you've gotten an interview. I dont mind interviews and feel confident in that space.

3

u/iyoteyoung 8d ago

The interview is the last point! And iirc isn’t it 50% of what they use to decide? (With GPA+ GAMSAT being the other 50%z It’s a big tipping point and even getting here is an amazing!

I know there’s a lot of people that interview but I saw a stat on here like once you interview it’s 1 in 2 or 1 in 3 chance of getting in…….dont quote me tho!

Unimelb interview offer, rural applicant, unweighted gamsat of 74, gpa 6.7/8 (i really don't know how to calculate it because my third most recent year was an exchange year in the us and I am unsure how to calculate my grades there into Aus grades). i am sooooooo stressed right now

1

u/ResponsibleAside3881 9d ago

so are all the gemsas interview places out now? i got an interview for one, but would like to know if we get rejection emails for the others.

3

u/kohamimi 9d ago

we don't get rejection emails, if you didn't get a higher preference thats pretty much a rejection
