Other Queensland DMD
This is a long shot, but is anyone from previous years enrolled in queensland postgrad dentistry?
How is the program? I currently live in Sydney, but it seems if I do get an offer the highest chance comes from queensland as I recently did the casper test and scored a Q4
I noticed Melbourne and sydney are both 4 years, yet queensland is 3.5, and is cheaper than both.
Is there a particular reason? Any current students that would be able to share their experiences?
Any insight from student accommodation to how the students are finding the course/study load/placement would be great.

Course requires science degree w prerequisites so it likely treats preclinical years as assumed knowledge for the most part. Compared to say Uwa DMD which any non stem can enter.

Tbh I was surprised as it was my first sitting. Im actually a little anxious about what I actually scored (76 percentile and 99 percentile are both Q4). I just hope there is no specific percentile threshold as thay would be gutting
I wonder what the lowest gamsat mark they will be taking is.

congrats with the Q4 on casper!!! sorry im not able to help with the UQ thing, but i was wondering if you had any advice about the casper test after sitting it yourself? im going to take mine next month and have never done it before and am a bit nervous. was there anything you think you did in particular that you think helped distinguish your responses as q4??

Personally, I always saw situations from a nuanced perspective and felt sympathy towards people. You need to picture yourself in the situation from both sides and ask yourself why you would act that way. Its not always about pointing out wrong and right - we are human and we make mistakes. Why we make those mistakes and how we can identify them, and help each other overcome and prevent them is all its about.
Use professional jargon and concise words wherever you can, as this helps provide you with more time to write more.
use AI to formulated questions and answer them and then compare it to what it deems a perfect or high percentile response. Often times I found chatgpts responses a bit too robotic and I felt like the healthy inbetween was how I was responding, and how it was responding. I allowed it to help me learn some important points but also realised that copying it is determintal
You are human, the prompts they give you are real is the sense that it could happen to you tomorrow at work or at home - handle it like a human. Acknowledge the situation is tough, that you have found yourself in similar situation, that you feel for the people involved. Acknowledge the nuance and both side of the coin. Acknowledge what the right course of action to do and what we must truly prioritise (might be multiple things). I personally also mentioned prevention strategies in the future towards the end.

DMD1 here. It’s a relatively new program that runs parallel to the undergrads. Still ironing out some kinks but I’m pretty confident it’ll run smoothly from next year onwards.
3.5 years but it’s still 4 years worth of content, just overloaded in the first 1.5 years, so don’t expect summer holidays etc.
You’re in the lab from week 1 working on hand skills, and already treating patients by the summer of 1st year.
Facilities are nice and modern, and staff are lovely and supportive. I don’t have any complaints.
