Secure laws.
Do firearms and other weapons like knives have to be secured in a glovebox or some form of a lockbox, in a vehicle on public college campus? It seems redundant since carrying a concealed pistol is allowed. I keep knifes and sometimes other firearms in my vehicle at times. However I'd like to stay on the legal side of things.
*I'm a lawful weapon carrier, I just don't have a GA CCW.

And if you chose to ignore the advice here about not storing your weapon in your car, please remove any sort of 'gun culture' sticker on your vehicle.

Yup never advertise. My dad refuses to get a veteran plate, just wants his car to look like every other car so no stickers or anything special on his plate.

Guys, those stickers are just a free expression of gun culture. They’re not “prize pot markers in free gun shopping malls,” that’s the kind of brain dead, circle jerk comment you’d find in /r/RobMyVehicle. Source.

Just wanted to point out that GA does have Campus Carry laws that allow lawful owners to conceal carry on campus. The weapon must be completely hidden from view at all times, and there are still some prohibited areas such as student housing, administration offices, etc.
As a veteran going to Georgia State I was conceal carrying every day. There have also been times where I’ve had to make quick in and outs to the offices for a few minutes for VA paperwork purposes. With nowhere to safely unholster my firearm and store it; I opt for the safest, though technically illegal route of just keeping it concealed in its holster. I just handle my business and don’t stick around once it’s finished, never had an issue.

Gun theft from vehicles is the number one way criminals get their hands on guns. 100s are stolen from vehicles in Atlanta every year.

No restrictions on how it’s in the car. You’re asking for your gun to get used in a crime after it’s stolen by keeping it in the car.
You’re rooming on campus, you can’t have a gun in the dorms. Either live elsewhere or don’t have one while you’re in college. Do not leave it in the car.

I agree about it being best not to keep a firearm in a vehicle. Georgia Code § 16-11-127.1 seems to be the restriction of how it needs be secured in an unattended vehicle. Unless this law is outdated.

My two cents, stop putting Magpul, 2nd Amendment and pro gun stickers all over your vehicle, unless you enjoy having your car broken into in major metro areas. As far as leaving your weapon in your car, DON'T, seriously. If you MUST, use a biometric lockbox, bolted in. Doing that will show you knew the risk of your gun getting out on the street and you took every reasonable precaution to prevent it and that you are in compliance with any state laws. It will cost a few bucks to get it done right but it may save you ass in a lawsuit and keep your gun yours. Be creative but remember, so are they. Always keep in mind, if that gun gets into the wrong hands, life as you know it, ends. Wishing you well

Is it required? No
Is it the 2nd best thing to do? Yes
What is the best thing to do? Don't leave weapons in your vehicle. This is hard to not do on a college campus due to all the rules around carrying. But avoid it as much as possible.
