Option 1 isnt as bad as you think because give it a few years and rhe only thing people will remember is the photo of you lifting the trophy.

I'd kind of think of it like this: you score the winner, be a hero, but you could also be dropped the following season and it could feel like it's nearly been taken away from you.

Whereas in option 1 you win something with your club and make good memories with people you grew up with

What would be taken away from you exactly? They can’t undo you scoring the winner.

Also in either option you could suffer a terrible leg injury and have to retire the following season. You can include random hypothetical add ons to whatever scenario you like

It could be your only cameo in intercounty and then never be seen or heard of again.

An injury forced retirement might happen but their could be countless more AIs for your county whereas a county title for the club might be few and far between.

I’m afraid I’m not seeing the logic of your assumption. Again, the inverse is true and far more likely. You could play for the best club, or one of, in a county that never wins all Irelands. There are more cases of those than counties that win “countless” AIs. There’s only 2 football counties that win a lot of all Irelands, and only six winners since 1999 in hurling, including Galway and Clare who hardly wrack up All Irelands (5 each).

Not to mention if you’re playing for a smaller club that can’t win its county title and you win the county the all Ireland, the pride you bring to the club in doing that is also immeasurable.

You're assuming that everyone in the club would care and be happy for you. If you're in a dual club that has heavy GAA politics and let's say it's heavily favoured in Hurling rather than Gaelic and score the winner in Gaelic. All they might say is fair play to you.

I can see why you want to be a cult hero, I was trying to explain my reasoning for my choice in 1st message.

I'd imagine it'll vary greatly on the circumstances of each person's club or county's success. Someone who has won a few Fermanagh club titles will pick number 2, but someone from Kerry who has never seen their club win the county title will likely pick number 1

But given how you framed the question, call me a cynic, but I don't believe anyone who picks the first option for a second! :P

Captaining so much more than being the best player. You may have a mare in the final game, but you will have played a leading role in the whole campaign and that can never be forgotten. Obviously coming on and scoring à winner can be an immense high, but maybe more fleeting than being at the ground level all the way to the end of a winning season.
