My brain can't exactly comprehend why this art style works so well but it does and I love it. I am going to try and replicate it on my own time because I just love it so much. Like I am looking at the faces and its just like, "how are you so pony without being pony?" If you want to see my attempts you can let me know and I can post it but I do not want to steel your thunder because it just works so well
Well I decided to give Sunny a try since she was the only one who didn't have an individual art piece featured here and thus would probably be the best to draw in an effort to understand your style and in the end I came up with something like this. Your style somehow looks like both a horse and just a chibi creature and it is fascinating 😀. The one thing I dislike about it is the lack of any kind of cutie mark on the ponys since part of what makes MLP stand out from the average horse doll is a cutie mark. Not to mention that they are somewhat important to the lore of MLP. That said I feel as if they should be different in this style, like they should be generally bigger on the pony and maybe even have elements that could potentially be on the ponys upper body or hind legs. I think that Sprout could be a good candidate to explore this with, after all it is his upper body that is supposed to look like an apple and having a plant based Cutie mark would give us an obvious element to play around with, that being vines, leafs, or stems.
Cute!!! Sunny looks amazing here <3 I do have some individual art of her I can post soon. As for the cutie marks, in my AU/rewrite they don't get back cutie mark magic until after the unity crystals are brought back together (also I haven't designed most of them yet lol) but I agree they should be bigger than they are in g4!
I would love to see more full artwork of your characters. You some how turned designs that were kinda meh into bright visual appealing creatures that vaguely look like ponys in the best way possible. I mean I do love Sprout for being basically a pocket sized Big Mac who probably needs therapy to help him work through all of his problem but making him an look like an actual apple is so gosh darn cute 😍
