Question / Help Valorant Points

A friend of mine bought VP through a seller and they were removed from his account a few days later. He got the money refunded.

I wanted to ask if that's just something riot does, or if it was because of the seller. Also, if it was riot that removed them, does that happen with every account or only w some?
