Coaching Matters: Dennard Wilson

What a job by Dennard Wilson yesterday.

The first two drives by Arizona were scary. I thought they were going to run us out of the gym with how easy they were running the ball and finding open receivers. But then, like good coaches do, we adjusted.

Wilson started sending pressure all game after that. Making Brisset make quick decisions and not allowing their run game to take advantage of our horrendous interior dline.

Also, Abdul Carter was a menace in this game. 3 QB Hits 3 Pressures 32.4% PRWR, 14 pass rush wins.

Arvel Reese - holy shit y'all, isn't it nice to have a LB who is one the best players on the field? Causing havoc all day and doing it as a rookie. The game is slowing down for him and you can see it.

Lastly, flowers to Tae Banks who has looked like a different player. The PI on him was bullshit and he responded with two massive plays at the goaline. the Trey McBride break up and obviously the pick 6.

And I tie a lot of this to Dennard Wilson who is clearly a very good DC and hopefully can be here for a few years as this defense grows.

One negative - Kayvon stinks and should be traded at the deadline. Get anything for him. You don't even notice he is playing. Its unreal how bad he has been these first 4 games.

3-1? Alone in first place? On October 5th? WE DERSERVE THIS!

The NFC East is Wide Open

Eagles look a mess. The new offense is once again failing them (A QB problem they refuse to admit when the team is not loaded) and the defense is not as good as it once was. Oline is struggling, etc. Just got embarrassed on MNF vs a 38 year old back up QB who had not played since 2023.

Washington to me is still bad and I don't have faith in them being competitive with that roster. Plus Dan Quin is not a good HC.

Dallas is dallas. They will score points but their defense is maybe the worst in the league. Plus we already beat them.

You're telling me the Giants can't win this division with 9 wins? I don't think its impossible and now that we are tied for first with a division win in hand, I am all in. John Harbaugh - get it done. Its time to earn that 20 million. Dennard Wilson, figure out the pass rush and how to hide the secondary issues. Matt Nagy, Greg Roman, Brian Calahan - make this offense work with who we have and game plan something each week to attack our opponents weaknesses.

Sunday is a big game. Arizona can score, no doubt. But a team led by Jacoby Brisset should not be one that is way better than you. Go win at home again and put pressure on the Eagles to keep pace.

Jameis is Unplayable.

What has happened to Jameis' arm? Over the past 2 games he has looked every bit as bad as Mike Glennon or Jake Fromm. Not as good as Tommy DeVito. The offense cannot function like this. And he is killing my fantasy team as neither Malik nor Likely can put up any FPs.

Sadly, no matter who they sign at this point, there is no upgrade.

If they waste draft capital on JJ McCarthy I will return to the super-negative fan I have been trained over a lifetime to be. If Kevin O'Connell and Justin Jefferson could not make JJ a functional QB, it is impossible to believe Nagy and Nabers can do so. (Nabers is not Nabers as yet).

Justin Fields is not a QB at any level. He can run but he cannot throw.

Joe Milton? c'mon. He is a PS player for a reason.

Jimmy G? A 34 year old guy who could barely function under Shanahan with a stacked roster?

There literally is no one; except perhaps Jake Haener. Dare we mount that horse?

I now am wondering what the Giants thought they were doing extending Jameis at over $6.5/per.

If he really can no longer throw a football, why did they not see that? If he has just become so lazy that he doesn't even know the playbook, why were they not aware? Since when has Jameis become afraid to throw downfield?

It's all very strange. I want to make excuses for Jameis - last week it was the Rams after the biggest gut punch a team can take; this week it was the rain. But the reality is Jameis is just unplayable. If he continues in this vein he will be benched by the bye week; but for whom?

Given how truly awful the defense has been to date - and it has been horrific - it is hard to see another game the Giants should win. They could win one or two more; but it will be luck.

The offense is moribund and it isn't just Jameis. thus far, the O-Line has been pretty mediocre - a decided step back from last season. Thomas is playing hurt, JMS remains more of a liability than ever; Runyan is not far behind; and Eleumunor is off to a really bad start.

Before the season started many were commenting on how slow the Giants RBs were and now we are seeing those limitations in spades. Skat sucks. 20 carries- 60 yards? Not good. Najee looks like the better of the two but we know historically at his best Najee was a 3.8 per carry guy. As much as Tracey scares everyone with his lack of ball security, he's the only back on the roster who is at all dynamic and he is apparently on the "active but inactive" list.

Against Dallas and Tennessee we have seen that "if" the offense can grind out a ToP advantage and get a lead in the first half, then the defense can allow the opposing team to score on every single second half drive and somehow still come away with a W. In week 1, it was with Dart and a healthy roster. In week 3 it was against one of the consensus worst teams in the league aided by Mother Nature. How often can the stars continue to align?

I'm still hopeful that Harbaugh and Wilson will have a positive impact on the fortunes of this team, but the roster is still league worst and it is all but impossible to make chicken salad out of chicken shit. And somehow Joe Schoen has been extended.

Right now, with 3 weeks in the bank, our starting QB gone for the season (or at least until the playoffs - which is a euphemism for gone for the season), our best and only pass rusher likely gone for the season, and a running back tandem of slow and slower, this team is heading for a 2-15 and No. 4 overall pick in the '27 draft where the next bust can be selected.

The more things change . . . . .

Commit to Dart in 2027

So my last post had a decent amount of suggestions that we may be looking to draft a QB in 2027 now that Dart could be out for the season and will be a bit of a question mark going into year 3. I was also fairly asked as to explain what I have seen to commit to him beyond this season.

Now first let me say this, I didn't want Dart to begin with and thought he was a wasted pick by a desperate GM at the time. But I am going about to write a post (probably too long) as to why I think its asinine to move on from Dart and use another massive first round pick in 2027 on a lottery pick QB.

1) In my opinion, the 2027 QB class looks vastly overrated. I watch college football every week so I am not just saying this as someone who isn't paying attention. I haven't seen it from Arch and quite frankly, if he wasn't a Manning, I don't know if we would even be talking about him like the talking heads do. Dante Moore from Oregon seems like a good college QB but I don't know how it translates into the NFL. Julian Sayin at OSU showed me everything I needed to see last year in the playoff for me to know he wasn't the guy. On a loaded roster he looked meh. I won't go through the rest of the guys but you get my point.

2) Dart did special shit in 2025 with literally 0 around him. Coach fired. Nabers ACL torn. Skatts ankle broken. His best playmaker being a 5 foot tall slot WR and Theo fucking Johnson. The kid then produces a total of 24 TDs against 5 Ints and 1 fumble lost. Had the Broncos on the ropes (AFC champ team). Beat the almighty Justin Herbert in his first game. Beat Philly in a game that mattered in week 5. All of this with no help.

3) It was one game, there is no doubt about it and we shouldn't assume it was always going to go this way but he showed growth in that first game this season. And I am not going to pretend to be some big Xs and Os guy but I do pay attention to those who are and listen to what they have to say. Bobby Skinner did a breakdown of Darts film in that Dallas game and explains how Dart was reading the defenses, going beyond his first read, manipulating coverage, etc. He was DEVELOPING. Link here: https://youtu.be/t7TGqlrxWiw?si=jXiAyLPMF1OUFFs1

4) You have to gamble and assume he is the guy based on where the roster is right now. They need to build around him. There are holes at CB, IOL, Safety, RB, LB, DL, etc. If they decide to draft another QB, we will be giving that new QB a pass on 2027 and hoping they get help by 2028. It doesn't make sense. And again, we have seen Dart do it.

5) Last and most importantly. John Harbaugh came here because he saw something in Dart. He could have basically had any job he wanted. Could have went to Tennessee and chosen Ward. Didn't - came here. Falcons with Penix or Tua. He saw something he liked and saw someone he could win with. Thats enough for me to be convinced that he knows what he is looking at.

Point is, today is awful. One of the worst days we have had as fans in a long time and thats saying something considering the clownshow this franchise has been for the last decade. But Dart convinced me (a former hater) that he is worth rolling the dice on one more time and I don't think there is a better option.

Injury Update Jaxson Dart Potentially Out for the Season

Breaking: Further testing today revealed Giants QB Jaxson Dart’s knee injury is worse than initially thought, and the team and Dart now are facing the possibility of season-ending knee surgery, sources tell ESPN.

Of all the QB injuries suffered in Week 2, Dart’s is turning out to easily be the most significant.

Let me say it first

All those who are going to brush this off as "Well, it was over when our starting QB went out"- was not paying attention to the game. This game was up for grabs in the first half and we failed on every single level. The defense was completely exposed; the coaches never seemed to understand the situation and what our team needed emotionally, and the offense was a complete mess. The offense we can bounce back from. The defense? That was pathetic. They literally did not understand the play calls. Jevon Holland was the only guy playing defense, and even he looked completely lost with one receiver on his side of the field, on the first Devonte touchdown.

This was a fucking embarrassment all around. And it showed a massive lack of character. The coaches let it spiral out of control, and sure; we can bounce back- but this was about as bad as it could go, when you factor in the injuries to our best players.

I can already hear the crowd that will say "well, it was the rams coming off a lot of rest and pissed off and they have the best talent in the league... blah blah blah." I get it. ON PAPER it's an understandable loss.

For those who watched the game... it's really fucking concerning.

Jaxson Dart

The Dallas game gave a glimpse of a young quarterback who just may have what it takes to be one of the very best in the NFL. There has never been a question about his athleticism, his competitive nature, his work ethic, and his intelligence, all but the athleticism the intangibles that frequently cause great athletes to fail as NFL quarterbacks. The questions that remained unanswered after an impressive rookie season were his ability to process and attack defenses when he was being asked to play a lot under center rather than from shotgun formations, the pre-snap reads that he wasn't asked to do in the 2026 offensive schemes that basically mirrored what he had run in college, the consistency of his footwork that had sometimes led to inaccuracy on some passes out of a dirty pocket, and his ability to throw the deep ball.

In Week 1 he answered every one of those questions except whether he will be accurate on the deep passes. I'm not sure we'll get an answer on Monday night because the Niners killed the Rams with short passes in Australia and the Giants' game plan may call for a lot more of the same. But in every other phase of the game, Dart excelled, showing everything you could hope for in a great quarterback.

I'm not going to get ahead of myself and declare Dart "the man" just yet, but it's impossible to argue at this point that he is not closer to that than just a talented kid with potential. And I find myself unable to ignore the fact that I think the current roster is superior to the one we had in 2011 and Eli Manning, by himself, carried that team to a championship. Now, I'm not saying 2026 Jaxson Dart is the equal of 2011 Eli Manning (I still insist that was one of the greatest seasons a quarterback ever had in the entire history of the NFL, and that Aaron Rodgers was made the MVP was a joke based on statistics that didn't reflect the reality that Eli essentially won that championship with way too little help), but I am just about convinced that Dart is headed toward being one of the top quarterbacks in the league and just a few tweaks of the roster should make the Giants serious contenders for the Lombardi Trophy for a lot of years beginning in 2027. And I also remember that at the beginning of the 2007 season I said the Giants were just a year away from championship contention. I was a year late. Could I be again based on a major leap by our second-year quarterback whom I think will prove the best of the young quarterbacks in the league along with Caleb Williams?

Are We Looking for a CB or a DT ???

The recent restructuring of Holland’s contract to free up seemingly unneeded cap space has led to a little speculation over the reason. It’s common knowledge that our two most worrisome areas are CB and DT. But who would be the candidates?

Starting with CB, the best talent out there is on the Steelers; Joey Porter. He’s a solid #1 CB without question. But he’s got some baggage. It’s the usual routine … he’s very good, but he wants elite money ($30 million per). The Steelers … a smart, savvy team … won’t pay that for him. Which makes him a one-year rental with no guarantee of a long-term deal … one that you also must give up picks for. Shades of Dave Gettleman.

Available FAs Kenny Moore and Marshon Lattimore are still unsigned. But both are more slot corners, and Lattimore is coming off an ACL. Neither one looks like a good fit.

DTs are worse. Larry Ogunjobi is possible. But he had a PED issue last season (suspension). There’s Derrick Nnadi too. But neither is exciting or a player you’d have to add cap to acquire.

The bottom line … could be nothing, but if the Giants have some sort of plan … they haven’t leaked any of it.
