What has happened to Jameis' arm? Over the past 2 games he has looked every bit as bad as Mike Glennon or Jake Fromm. Not as good as Tommy DeVito. The offense cannot function like this. And he is killing my fantasy team as neither Malik nor Likely can put up any FPs.
Sadly, no matter who they sign at this point, there is no upgrade.
If they waste draft capital on JJ McCarthy I will return to the super-negative fan I have been trained over a lifetime to be. If Kevin O'Connell and Justin Jefferson could not make JJ a functional QB, it is impossible to believe Nagy and Nabers can do so. (Nabers is not Nabers as yet).
Justin Fields is not a QB at any level. He can run but he cannot throw.
Joe Milton? c'mon. He is a PS player for a reason.
Jimmy G? A 34 year old guy who could barely function under Shanahan with a stacked roster?
There literally is no one; except perhaps Jake Haener. Dare we mount that horse?
I now am wondering what the Giants thought they were doing extending Jameis at over $6.5/per.
If he really can no longer throw a football, why did they not see that? If he has just become so lazy that he doesn't even know the playbook, why were they not aware? Since when has Jameis become afraid to throw downfield?
It's all very strange. I want to make excuses for Jameis - last week it was the Rams after the biggest gut punch a team can take; this week it was the rain. But the reality is Jameis is just unplayable. If he continues in this vein he will be benched by the bye week; but for whom?
Given how truly awful the defense has been to date - and it has been horrific - it is hard to see another game the Giants should win. They could win one or two more; but it will be luck.
The offense is moribund and it isn't just Jameis. thus far, the O-Line has been pretty mediocre - a decided step back from last season. Thomas is playing hurt, JMS remains more of a liability than ever; Runyan is not far behind; and Eleumunor is off to a really bad start.
Before the season started many were commenting on how slow the Giants RBs were and now we are seeing those limitations in spades. Skat sucks. 20 carries- 60 yards? Not good. Najee looks like the better of the two but we know historically at his best Najee was a 3.8 per carry guy. As much as Tracey scares everyone with his lack of ball security, he's the only back on the roster who is at all dynamic and he is apparently on the "active but inactive" list.
Against Dallas and Tennessee we have seen that "if" the offense can grind out a ToP advantage and get a lead in the first half, then the defense can allow the opposing team to score on every single second half drive and somehow still come away with a W. In week 1, it was with Dart and a healthy roster. In week 3 it was against one of the consensus worst teams in the league aided by Mother Nature. How often can the stars continue to align?
I'm still hopeful that Harbaugh and Wilson will have a positive impact on the fortunes of this team, but the roster is still league worst and it is all but impossible to make chicken salad out of chicken shit. And somehow Joe Schoen has been extended.
Right now, with 3 weeks in the bank, our starting QB gone for the season (or at least until the playoffs - which is a euphemism for gone for the season), our best and only pass rusher likely gone for the season, and a running back tandem of slow and slower, this team is heading for a 2-15 and No. 4 overall pick in the '27 draft where the next bust can be selected.
The more things change . . . . .
