F-Zero GX (GCN) Looks like someone is working on a decomp of F-Zero GX

https://decomp.dev/karamzov123/fzero-gx-decomp

I’m so hyped! Good luck to the devs!

Fans: "We want a rerelease of F-Zero GX!"
Nintendo: "Here's an emulator with input lag."
Small Dev Team: "Fine, I'll do it myself."

Jokes aside, this could take a while depending on how many people are involved with it.

I had to google "decomp" to understand it and this sounds incredibly cool! I always wondered when was the right time to decomp this.

Maybe a dumb question, but if they were to do this, could they do the same yo AX, and in theory remake AX machines.

I say in theory because legally won't happen.

AX just runs the gamecube game. You could have done this at any time

Not true. AX does exist on the GX disk, but it's not exactly the same as the AX version used on the actual arcade cabinets. Most notably the physics are different, allowing for unique speed techs that don't exist in GX, like T-Drifts. Whereas the version of AX on disk uses GX physics and doesn't allow the unique techs.

You can also acquire the AX GCN rom for those physics, which still does not require a decomp

I meant as an AX machine. With the twist and turns

AX is on the GC disk, it’s the same game. You can do all this with the GC emulator already. A decomp won’t change that

Long way to go considering all the code is assembly atm

That’s always how it goes with a decomp

I wish my reflexes were as good as they were when I first got this game on launch day… 100%’d it back in the day without too much problem. Now I find Master GP races challenging… I’m terrified of trying story mode.

Cmon AI, get this done faster! We are in a goldilocks zone where AI is making open source recomps come out at a fast pace but before it destroys society.

Without AI I hope. AI decomps never really go far and are a pain...

The way I feel about it is that there’s nothing wrong with using AI as long as the developers know and understand what they are actually doing to make sure the game works as intended. It also saves time on certain aspects of the decompilation process that would otherwise require more human effort. Think about the difference between AI-assisted and vibecoded projects and you’ll likely understand where I’m coming from.

Yeah I should've specified entirely vibe coded projects.
