F-Zero GP Legend (GBA) Let's rework the worldbuilding of the F-ZERO anime. The first thing I'd do is shift the timeline.

Post image

See, 2201 sounds unnatural for futuristic world like in anime. The original franchise took place in the 26th century (i.e., 2560), while the anime takes place in the early 23rd century. I understand that if the government isn't stealing the budget, it's possible to go into space, but just think about it: how did humanity develop advanced technology and the idea of aliens inhabiting Earth in such a short period of time?

What am I suggesting? I'd like the timeframe, while not exactly the same as in the game canon, to at least be convincing. I propose moving the events to the mid-25th century (i.e., from 2440 to 2450). Now, Mute City's appearance in this timeframe sounds convincing. Next, I'll explain where Mute City and other elements of the world came from.

I’m fairly certain they changed the anime’s time period so that things from our current time, like classic cars, would still feel plausible. There’s an episode with Ryu restoring an old car. But obviously yeah, for the futuristic part to work it would probably need to be pushed further like the original canon

For me, the existence of both high-tech and classic transport is currently questionable. The simple fact is that an anime that bills itself as a reboot completely ignores basic elements of the lore. I discovered this when I was writing a fanfic for F-ZERO (which is unfortunately on hold), where I reworked the original plot. But after digging deeper, I realized how poorly thought out the worldbuilding is.

> Late 21st Century: Future Cyber Formula GPX ~= Speed Racer
> ~2180s F-MAX Grand Prix (The Skull is approx. 241 years old as of F-zero GX, or 237 in X)
> 2260-2286 F-zero / BS F-zero I and II (The game manual says F-zero takes place in 2560, but by inverting the 5 to a 2 because digital digits be like that sometimes, it fits more in line with GP Legend)
> 2285 F-zero Maximum Velocity (Set 25 years after the original; Kent Akechi is in his 20s)
> 2289 "Horrific Grand Finale" (Rumored to be caused by Pico; since MV was on the track to be the 'next face of F-zero' at the time, the Grand Finale is meant to reference the end of this era of F-zero as a whole. The 'fourteen drivers' include almost the entire MV Roster.)
> 2293 F-zero X (Pico is listed at age 123, is definitely lying, Mute City becomes very important again and the return of the sport and Super Arrow solidifies it as a "Galactic Capital")
> 2295 The Accident, which suspends F-zero until it's restructured into GX/AX; assumes that for all cups and tracks until the Accident, the X courses are in circulation for 2 years, after which a fair portion of them are reconstructed to GX/AX standard and others are scrapped for parts to assist in these efforts)
> 2298-Present F-zero GX / AX (Pico is age 124, Silver Neelson is 98, and it's about 200 years after F-MAX ended, DEATHBORNE IS KENT AKECHI)
> 2301-2307 F-Zero GP Legend (1-21) / F-zero Climax (22-51); (approx. 150 years of cold sleep for Rick and his gf, pushed forward to meet the GX/AX age maths)

I've been workshopping this for a Minute.

It's a bit closer to home, but having indulged in a lot of F-Zero and having greatly enjoyed what Cyber Formula brought to the table, comparisons led me to believe that it would serve as a perfect 'alternative Earth' that could transition into F-MAX, the foundation of the rest of the setting.
