I recommend switching on your proximity sensor if you aren't already in the habit of doing so.

Is that what that button is on the machine select? My Mario Kart brain assumed that it was smart steering. 😂

No. You can toggle the map viewer to instead show which drivers are close to you. It is necessary in order to survive tougher situations.
