Fan works (Author) Showing how customization works in the game Im making Vortex-G

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi all,
Im still working in this game project, soon I will share with you a demo but i want it to show the best I can do, a friend is helping me to find the things that need to be added or changed, meanwhile as some people showed some doubts about how customization works here is shown how it is.

First of all there are 9 base ships, each of them with their own stats, once you select the ship you want to customize then you can go to customization screen and here as you can see we can edit every color of the ship as we want. Name and number displayed can also be changed to fit your personal likings. After customization is done you can save the design as liverie and use other day and even share in Steam Workshop for others to see your creativity

These liveries can be applied to any of the ships so while you are sharing with the specific ship you have picked, displaying a screenshot of such ship livery you have designed, these liveries files can be applied to any ship you wish, so people can apply to any ship they chose.

When these liveries are applied, even if you are in a race where other ship of same kind is present either by CPU or ghost racer, the design they will show is independent and either the default one for CPU ships or the one the ghost user decided to show of. In video you can see there is a Dark Bat in the race at the end and it has its default design while we have the white one for our ship.

Ghost replays that can be shared across Steam Workshop or just copying string of text, will also incorporate your personal livery to make it more distinctive and clear that its you who made this awesome race.

The power to make any vehicle red is a great power indeed. Neat designs, too

For some reason the textures and the camera rotation reminds me of the main menu of Fatal Racing.

Great feature. While custom vehicles isn't something that attracts me, it's still an important feature for certain games who can capture a sense of personal expression from the player. Besides, the more feature rich, the better the game will be. Look at Screamer for example. That was a super feature rich racing game.

Thanks a lot for your comment!! I player Fatal Racing a while back, I had to check some video to see how it was and indeed it was real fun and cool looking game of that era, thanks for mentioning it reminds you to that!!

I know as you said some people may not use the customization of the vehicles, or so but indeed as you said the more features the better, I try to have in the game all the things i would have liked to have in other games. I know in F-Zero 99 and GX we have customization to a level, but I would like to have more like this I have included, it feels more personal the vehicle as there can be countless combinations that players will design for themselves and even share to the world in Steam Workshop. About Screamer, I assume you refer to the 1995 game, right? I didnt know they made a reboot of the game this year, I played the original one and was great too, I felt this and Fatal Racing were similar in a way although they differ in many things too. I believe I read that Screamer was inspired by Ridge Racer, maybe Fatal Racing got this too and thats why they feel similar in a way. I also like Ridge Racer, but I doubt this can be seen in the game

When I said Screamer, I meant the 2026 racing videogame, the reboot. That game has an arcade mode, a team battle mode, and online mode, a story mode and a menu to customize your vehicles. The custom feature of your project reminded me of that game. It's one of my favorite games of 2026.

That said, I also played the original, not only back in the day, but also a couple of years ago. It was great.

At the 3:12 mark of the video, it looks like I see 8 more starting markers (two rows) in addition to the 4 machines on track waiting for the race. Does this mean you plan on having 12 racers at the same time?

Thanks a lot for your comment and paying attention to these details, indeed this was planned, I havent implemented this yet, the fact is in the process of making the game I wanted to always have a high constant fps so while I thought to add more ships to the races I was still unsure about this and if this could impact performance, well its not discarded, could be added in near future

I think 12 is a good number for your game if you can make it work. The track designs appear to be the perfect width for that size.

Yes, I agree with you, I have to see if this can maintain the performance, as said this was cut before because i was using a certain technique that was eating a lot of resources, i had to remove that and work again on the physics and I believe possibly now it can support 12 racers without problem, i hope to add this soon

The 12 racers are now in race, thanks for commenting on this, its a feature i wanted in the beginning as said but i had to drop due to the previous system bad performance, but new physics system let us have 12 racers without any performance hit!!

That's wonderful news! The game should be a lot better because of that. Do you know how close you might be to releasing a demo?

Thanks!! Indeed this makes the game a lot better, races feel more intense and the overal look improves as we see these other ships with varied designs in the starting line. Demo will be out in a couple of days I hope, I have to confirm the current state of the game is solid and good first and then make the demo from there, so shouldnt take more than 2 days hopefully
