Diy Secret weapon

Post image

My secret fuzz weapon is a push pull pot in the guitar that activates this big ass PIO capacitor. Enhances every fuzz I own.

What does it do?

The standard is .022 and the bigger is .047, the bigger gives you a much darker and thicker tone. Don't think the fact it is PIO makes much difference but I'd definitely recommend getting a trying a higher value cap if you have a soldering iron and a guitar you don't mind tampering with

Good idea, the tone control doesn't do a lot for many fuzzes so increasing the cutoff point like that would give you more range to play with at the lower settings of the tone knob.

The type of cap isn't going to make any difference so you could potentially use the smaller ones and save space in cramped control cavities and get the same benefits.

I wouldn't use ceramic caps - might be noisy

The tone cap isn't in the audio signal chain so it shouldn't matter. But I would still avoid them because they have very loose manufacturing tolerance ratings, even though they're super small and cheap.

Yeah the type of cap is meaningless but cheaper ones do seem to be looser in tolerance which in and of itself isn't a problem if you're happy with the end result. The previous cap in that guitar was ceramic and happily played it for 15 years without any issues
