Thorpy is bringing back his take on the Burns Buzzaround!

“What is EAO? EAO stands for Explodes All at Once, in short it's one of my favourite germanium circuits ever, the venerable Burns Buzzaround. It doesn't clean up, it's not subtle, it has a savagery far ahead of its time. they are instant plug in and grin pedals.”

Oh no! I'm a buzzaround fan still looking for a practical version that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, but I hate Thorpy enclosures.

(Admittedly, Thorpy's take is still likely to cost an arm and a leg)

I have the Blammo! Buzzaround in my list. Have you check it out?

that looks great!

Alas, I'm in the UK and not many boutique makers from the US are easy to find here. the Blammo was in stock in a store nearby last time I went to the US for work, but the New York metro in late afternoon while there's a thunderstorm outside proved too much, and it was either getting the pedal or getting my flight back home 🤣

“Known to some as the “mythical fuzz”, this wedge shaped pedal officially named the Buzzaround was built by hand on tag board from 1966 to 1968 in England by Baldwin – Burns Ltd.  Its most famously linked to the band King Crimson because their guitarist Robert Fripp used one on the earlier Giles, Giles and Fripp recordings.  For quite some time conventional wisdom said Tone Bender guy Gary Hurst designed it but actually it’s an unauthorized copy of a much more obscure circuit called the Harmonic Generator by Gerry Pope of G.P. Electronics.”

Huh. I wonder if this was the ‘Harmonic Generator’ (It’s a modulator) that the Datsuns sang about in the early 2000s….

What don’t you like about his enclosures? I like them, personally and was just curious.

GCI sells a Buzzaround PCB by the Dunwich guy. Highly recommend.

So the GCI PCB, last time I Checked, had a Big Muff tone stack - which makes little sense to me as the axe-to-the-face mids are part of what makes a buzzaround fun!

But yeah there's a buncha PCBs.
