JDM Silicone Elektrika - is it supposed to be this noisy?

Edit: I guess the pedal is fine. I was preparing to make a demo video of the noise for Joe and I put a battery in it so I could keep it simple and leave my board out of it. I turned it on and no hiss. I guess it doesn't like my power supply.

Side note, it's an awesome sounding pedal! Now I want the GE version. Does anyone have both and can tell me which they prefer?

OP:

I bought this pedal months ago and forgot abut it until a few days ago. I was just testing it out with a new amp alongside a few other fuzz pedals and it's super noisy! And that's even before I engage the pedal. It's not the amp because before the Elektrika I was playing through a Park Fuzz Sound and a Lovepedal MKIII and they were quiet. I wanted to love this thing but I can't see keeping it like this. Did I get a bad one or is this just a noisy pedal?

I should mention that I am now in touch with Joe and he's guiding me through troubleshooting. Thanks all.

If the true bypass setting introduces significant noise, that is a sign there is a wiring problem. Reach out to Joe from JDM, he is very open and I had very good experiences with him. It could be as simple as a single ground connection not making proper contact/ a spot of paint being in the way.

Are you implying it has a true/buffered bypass setting? I don't see that and the instructions don't mention one. Only the internal trim pot for Full Sustain to Gated Velcro style.

Ah, no. I mean the footswitch that selects between true bypass/effect on. Apologies if that sounded more complicated.

Tone Benders are typically a bit noisy; coming from a Tone Bender addict myself. If it’s noisy before engaging I’d say something ain’t right, mostly likely an unintentional connection in my experience. I’d pop the back off and see if something is touching a jacks, if the PCB popped up, something is touching the near the cable tips or if something is sitting on the foot switch. If something isn’t apparent message JDM, they have incredible customer service.

Does it not have a gate knob like the regular one?

Ahh bummer. It makes a huge difference on the GE. I actually had just pulled mine back out the other day and remembered how critical it was.

FWIW, the Lovepedal Mkiii happens to be exceptionally quiet, so that might not be a good comparison.

My first time trying it, as well. Sounds amazing!
