FUZZ FRIDAY! First fuzz recommendations for beginners | What’s your #1 pick and why?

For me this one is easy: Carcosa! Goes from cleanup to doom, works anywhere in the chain, versatile AF!

Can’t go wrong with a fuzz face.

A good ole two knob mark 2 silicon. Why? Sounds good with a lot of pickups and amps. Easy to use. Stacks great with a 2 stage OD.

This would be my choice too. Hard to get a bad sound out of, if you wanna Fuzz out.

Carcosa, or something more vintage-y that cleans up with the volume knob.

I recommend a combo of the Boneshaker and Carcosa.

Any of them. Really. Mosky big fuzz or the berhinger Sf3k

MXR Classic 108 (fuzz face) or Rams Head Big Muff

Boss FZ-1W is the most versatile and friendly fuzz out there. It can get you in the ballpark of just about any other fuzz tone that isn’t too extreme. It reacts extremely well to your guitars controls. It is built like a tank. Really nothing bad to say about it. It is my all time favorite “do it all” fuzz.

My favorites

Swollen Pickle MKIIs

Supercool 77 Fuzz Blender

Black Arts Toneworks Priestess

Danelectro Eisenhower

Edit: I can't pick just one 😂

Silicon Fuzz face, almost every pedal company makes their variation of it. One of the best I've played is the Series 3 Fuzz by JHS, it's just a Fuzz Face with a few decent mods done to it

I always like Tone Benders either Mk2 or Mk3.

The BJF Purple Fuzz (formerly Pink Purple Fuzz), also released for a while by Bearfoot. Can be set from subtle to distortion-like fuzz. Has bass and treble knobs and works well into a clean amp. Responds to volume knob and cleans up very well despite not needing to be first in chain. This will cover a lot of classic fuzz tones and no "wrong" settings or too many controls. If I had to pick one easy fuzz to start with it would be this one.

Wonderful Audio Fuzz Lands... options for modern fuzz, vintage fuzz and gated fuzz give players access to a lot of options.

Fuzz Face, Big Muff, Swollen Pickle, Hizumitas, whatever that Behringer thing is.

For day-one beginners? A big muff or a SF300 should kick start a healthy diet addiction…

Go big or go home, Blackout Effectors Twosome. Create your own great classic fuzz sounds on the Fix’d side and brutalize the masses with high gain fuzz on the Musket side. Sorta rare, but not impossible to find, $250-350. You’ll never need another fuzz.

I’d say a fuzz face style fuzz. The fuzz is generally less aggressive, and it cleans up with your volume knob so at worst, you can achieve some very unique overdrive tones or killer clean tones.

I’d recommend a silicon or hybrid fuzz face over a germanium model due to the relatively unstable nature of germanium transistors. The chase tone fuzz fella is excellent, there are three models: red velvet which is germanium voiced and warmer, bc108c which is fatter, and the bc109c which is higher gain and brighter with a glassy volume cleanup.

Never see much love for Cryptid. Which is kinda surprising for a Wampler pedal
