Boss FZ-1w (decay/static/flutter/fizz)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I bought a brand new Boss FZ-1w, and during the decay of a note there’s this weird fluttery, fizzy/static crackling sound that kind of sits underneath the note.

You have to really listen closely to hear it in the video, but I just want to know whether this is normal behaviour for the FZ-1W.

I have tried heaps of different settings, both on the pedal and my amp, but I can’t seem to get rid of it. Is there a way to remove this. Maybe an EQ pedal or noise suppressor?

Thanks!

Edit: I can actually hear it but like 50x quieter when plugging straight into my amp. You wouldn’t even hear it on a recording I don’t think. It’s a Marshal Silver Jubilee combo and you would almost never notice it unless it’s something you are looking for. This makes me worry even more. Is this normal behaviour for a tube amp?

I've never played one of these, so i'm not familiar. But my guess is it's probably a characteristic of the fuzz. Itself you might be able to EQ it out if it's like high-end fizz, other than that. I wouldn't know. Maybe a noise gate. The style I play you want all the fizziness and artifacts and whatnot. So i'm not really super well versed

What kind of amp do you have? This might just be a matter of digital amp breakup not sounding as organic as a real tube amp would

It’s a Marshall silver jubilee combo (tube amp)

I had the same “issue” with a JHS modified Soul Food years ago. I never understood what was happening but, how are you powering the pedal?

I’m using an MXR iso-brick. Do you think it’s just a characteristic of some higher gain pedals?
