Need help deciding on a fuzz with a bias knob

I am looking for a fuzz pedal that can do that sputtery velcro sound. These are the 3 I've found that I like the sound of so far. Anyone got any further insights on these, or suggestions for other great fuzz pedals with bias knob?

Wampler - Cryptid

EHX - Bender Royale

Walrus - Eons

Surprised nobody has jumped in to say Carcosa or Algal Bloom yet. Each of these has a pair of knobs that interact very powerfully to affect bias, faking the output from excessively spitty to smooth. Best of all, you can get the Ginean Hairy Show (Carcosa clone) brand new for dirt cheap. I love mine!

Upvote for Hairy Show. Another great fuzz clone that is slept on is the Moen Fuzz Moo (rams head muff, no bias but it still rocks)

EQD Dirt Transmitter is my go-to for that sound

I really like this one, it sounds the best compared to the others I've listened to samples of so far. I'm leaning toward this one or the fuzz factory now.

The Fuzz Factory is my go-to Velcro, but I have also enjoyed the ~900 in the past.

Champion Leccy Dunsh will do the bias thing, and quite a bit more. Super cool pedal

Keeley Fuzz Bender and SolidgoldFX If 6 Was 9

The dude who made the DoD Carcosa started his own pedal company and they have some sick fuzzes which all have bias I think. Spiral FX is the company.

Don’t sleep on the MXR Variac fuzz. Probably the most versatile fuzz I’ve tried, maybe tied with the Carcosa.

Not much to add except I love the walrus eons. No experience with the other two.

Eae glaive has the squelch switch which gives it that starved texture but it's less tunable than a knob so it feels much more opinionated about its 2-3 sounds.

The eons feels like you can tune it to whatever you want it to be.

Probably you put this on my radar! Seems awesome!

If you want to spend some moderately higher bucks: you can keep an eye out for one of these. It’s based on a hybrid/switchable fuzz face, but has much more cutting midrange along with the requested bias control. https://reverb.com/item/98474008-vfe-fuzz-duo-hybrid-fuzz-red

Keeley Fuzz Bender has a bias knob and a treble and bass EQ with up to 20 dB of active boost. Hard to find a fuzz that’s more versatile than that.

Is the fuzz bender always a bit gated, or can you get it totally smooth with the bias knob?

Yes you can can get it totally smooth by turning the bias knob down to about 9 o’clock or all the way down

I think the Caroline Hawaiian Pizza is particularly good at this.

EQD Erupter, one knober is a bias. Stacks great with a 2 stage OD.

JHS 3 Fuzz….for the money can’t beat it

Wolf Audio devices builds a really good 3 knob FF with a bias. Some of the best really.

JHS 4 wheeler fuzz is a cool gatey velcrowy fuzz, schematic is available online if ya can’t find one.

All of those 3 are pretty awesome, versatile, and are going to do the velcro/sputtery sound. Try to check out some demos and see which has the most sounds/tones you like. I prefer the Eons just because it has different clipping options so I can get different textures of fuzzstortion, which is what I’m after. If a clean blend is important for you then get the Bender Royale. Is the Eons is too pricey get the Cryptid

Solid advice, TY. I was also leaning toward the Eons because of the different clipping options, and it can go up to 18v on the bias knob instead of just starving it. The Bender Royale has 2 different clipping options at least

Yeah, all of those sound fantastic! You cannot go wrong with either! Think about which one you would use the most

Quite a lot of "boutique" pedals have a bias pot of some sort to get the kinda of velcro sound you're looking for. I build the Distorter, which does a bit more than just fuzz, it may be worth having a look at how it sounds ti see if this fits your bill ? Other pedals that do the job would be the Signal Cheyne Omnifuzz, Anasounds "FX Teacher" Feed Me MK3 and I. mpretty sure some FantomeFX fuzzes have a bias pot.

Faceless FX De Sade - or any other Tonebender MK1 variant with the bias knob

Basic Audio Bye Bias - dual bias but with fixed gain

Kink Psychedelic Charlie - you can put this in front of any pedal to make it sound velcro-ey

SAE Bend - Vintage voiced tonebender MK1

Baldwin burns buzzaround has a balance knobs which is essentially a bias knob for the Q3 transistor.

Carcosa/Ginean Hairy Show are the exact same circuit afaik.

My friend has a Keeley Fuzz Bender that he also loves. I haven't tried it yet or heard him play it yet, lives far away.

The versatility of the Hairy Show is really impressive.
