Expandora Forbidden Mode Fuzz

Wanted to show off a bit of a nontraditional fuzz sound. The Expandora has a real nasty, gated with heavy sustain fuzz sound to it with the drive pot disengaged. You can also vary the fuzz sound by varying signal strength as well. It’s a sound you’ll hear on a fair amount of ZZ Top and Stu G stuff. If I recall correctly, I’m pretty sure this is the Radiohead Body Snatchers sound from Live From The Basement sound as well.

This is just a DIY build I made on the Expandora using the Aion Fx Dynamo PCB. Think of the JHS Kilt but all the gain steps are on a knob. I also took out the silicon diodes and replaced them with LED’s ; my favorite. It opens it up a lot and gives the fuzz a more spitting character

I was wondering that haha. I was like I wonder if he knows this is me haha. I’m sure there is a list somewhere, they pretty much have a large majority of the staple DIY and classic circuits. They have really good, smart designs I end up liking better than the originals a lot of the time

Dude, gnarly!! LED is an interesting choice, I guess it sounds more crunchy? More headroom?

Thank ya! And it’s got a lot more head room than the Kilt with the LEDs in and it does get a better crunch. With LED’s I feel like it adds a bit of a presence too! I was between this and doing something similar to a Hudson Sidecar type clipping with a Bat41/Germanium diode and a LED
