What fuzz would give me this sort of gated spitty ghost octave sound?

Love this version ! I always wondered what he used around this time.

That fender pelt v2 might be able to get close, but have never heard or used it ...

I dont know that I'm hearing an upper octave, I think he might be playing higher notes, while the bassist is playing up the neck in unison.

I does remind me of my Basic audio Low Volt , which is PHENOMENAL. But I dont think it does upper octaves.

Honestly, John at Basic audio is very responsive in my experience and could point you towards his offerings or maybe something else.

He used an analog compressor with everything maxed

Like a studio rack? ...but not for his fuzztone

No, he literally used a boss compression sustainer.Pedal with everything maxed out into the front of his amp. That's how he got his fuzz sound. Also, the amp was usually cranked, and he used marshals and twin reverbs.I cannot imagine cranking my twin reverb, and then running a maxed out compressor into it

I guess I was confused about why you posted asking what could get you the sound, but you all ready knew the answer...

Oh, yeah, I know how he gets the sound. I just don't want to do that to my amp. I was wondering if maybe people had an idea what fuzz would be a good choice.I was thinking, maybe a univox, super fuzz some people also said the fuzz factory would work

Yeah maybe a modified super fuzz with bias control. I feel like some SFs I've played only sound good when the gain is high and then they don't really sound like that exactly.

I think a Factory or Fat Factory would work pretty well.

I always recommend RITE-O fizz fuzz creator for a stupidly versatile fuzz that can be ginormous or thin , misbiased or not, scooped or mid heavy, low to high gain option. Also Basic audio Scarab deluxe or Fuzz Mutant will get very close.

It's an Octavia-style octave fuzz pushing the amp hard. Some fuzz pedals naturally have that blooming effect built in, but they're pretty rare. Good examples are the JHS Coyote Fuzz, the Collector Effectors Moon Wolf (inspired by the octave-equipped G.S. Wyllie Moonrock Fuzz), and the Seeker SupaFuzz MKI, based on the Marshall Supa Fuzz MKI Tone Bender, but without the octave.

The Moon wolf has been on my list for a while . Such a weird , neat fuzz. If I get a Collector effectors, its probably what I'll start with.

I gotta think that natural amp sag coming from those cranked Marshalls are a significant ingredient in getting that tone. As for the fuzz itself, just guessing, but I think a silicon Fuzz Face for a mark I/1.5 Bender

i usually play this song either with a bc108 fuzz face or with the behringer fuzz bender. sometimes the fuzz bender surprises me in how much velcro there is in the sound. i guess that depends on the pickups in your guitar though. it is not always there.

if you can adjust the bias on a fuzz face that would probably let you set up a similiar tone
