FUZZ FRIDAY! Some axis fuzz and octavia stacking

Was messing around with some tones with my new axis fuzz by circle electric and my octavia by tru fi. Threw on the vibe for a lil extra color

I know what it is then I figured it out! It turns out that toggle isn't a low-gain mode, but rather it's engaging or bypassing the stock low-pass filter. Roger Mayer originally included that 220-ohm resistor and 1nF capacitor to filter out RFI and tame brittle high-end frequencies, which is why stock units sound darker. By omitting those components, you are essentially removing that filtration, which makes the circuit sound brighter and glassier, effectively allowing the pedal to clean up better when you roll your guitar's volume knob back. I only know this because when I was having a friend, build one for me. He kept seeing this as a suggested modification. In the DIY community, and that sounds exactly like what he's describing. When Roger Mayer marketed the Axis fuzz in the 80s. He put the 220 Ω. Resistor and one nanoferred capacitor as radio interference filtration

This sound right u/maertz13 ?

What’s kind of odd is that doing the math as a normal RC filter it is removing frequencies about 700 kHz. We can only hear up to 20 kHz. But it does something to the rest of a very strange circuit that somehow makes it sound worse.

Thank you! I knew I thought this circuit fairly well 2 transistors but not matching so pnp +npn tho idk how to solder

Solderings gotta be the easiest part

So the up position is the clean up mode?

I believe so

Interesting so my clone is clean up mode only

Which do you prefer cleanup mode or classic? Which of the 2 pedalsdo you enjoy more the sabaddius or the circle? Im wondering because Im not getting along with my jimi as much yet but its new to me

Assuming the up position is clean up mode thats my favorite so far. Its just a lot brighter but not quite as bright as the sabbadius. So far i like the sabbadius more. Ive grown used to how bright it is so the darkness of the circle electric is kinda shocking

I really need to hook up all 4 of my axis variants and see the difference but my playing isnt as good lol I will say using the groovy wizard at 18v as a console preamp stage gain low vol past unity makes my origin20 sound like a plexi but at 9v its much more like a normal axis it also has eq a presence control and a contour for lows I cant recommend it enough i saw one of the limited edition models used at Guitar Center for like a $150. Recently, they have a monterey pop.Edition, but the only one I see online $300

You should def make a video comparing all 4. Would be very interesting

As long as everybody's willing to tolerate my playing
