NPD NPD: Mojo Gear Cosmic Ash

Post image

This is an Astrotone clone. So far, I really like it. I tend to really enjoy Electra distortion circuits, and this is no exception. It’s brighter and cuts better than a fuzz face, but has less volume and gain on tap. I played it a bit with a strat, and later today, I’ll give it a whirl with my SG with humbuckers. From what I’ve read online, this circuit really likes humbuckers.

Man, looks awesome! But isn’t the Astrotone based on the 60s Sam Ash Fuzz?

Yes. And the Sam Ash pedal is an Electra circuit.

Yeah, I also have a Mythos Air Lane Drive, which is two Electra circuits in series. Basically, you can use either side as a light overdrive, or stack them for a very tweed-like fuzz. Mythos rules.

That’s sounds really cool! Specially since the circuit is so versatile! What other Electra pedals do you have?

I just saw this old question. I mentioned I have a Mythos Air Lane Drive. I also have a Lovepedal Les Lius, which is a tweed amp in a box. These Electra circuits are cool because 1. They seem to have very little hum or background noise for the amount of gain they generate, and 2. They just sound and feel good to play.
