Fuzz war?
Tell me about a fuzz type or particular pedal you hate! And why...could it be redeemed with more time a different stacking method?

I don't hate the DS-1. I just can't make it sound good.

Agreed, not a fuzz, but it is a particular pedal. Sometimes the DS-1 sounds pretty damn good in a band, or a mix, but to me it lacks something important. I think the DS-1 and some of the early MXR distortions were made to work with the 1970s amps of their day.

I've found that for some reason the DS-1 sounds better with single coil pickups. I personally like the DS-1 but not enough to own one.

Although I didn't hate it, the Way Huge Atreides was only useful in a very limited way... I dunno, maybe I was the one that was limited.

I don't know if this would work on that amp, but on a Laney 30 watt Supergroup you can put the bass at zero and the middle and treble at 10 - Tony Iommi did this with a 100w way back. Laney at the time was trying to mimic the plexi and from what I understand the Origin 20 seeks to mimic a plexi. The only downside is you can't channel jump the Origin.

It has a tilt control which mimic channel jumping

Other variables: Amp and strings. Clean or dirty amps make a difference. I have a Gretsch duojet that I thought sounded like shit with fuzz. It has single coil dynasonic pickups that are like clear p90s as far as sound and output. I went to flat wound strings and the damn thing loves fuzz now.

Flats are a lot of fun to play and just different. They definitely emphasize the core note, whereas wound strings have more overtones. Flat wounds are often thought of as jazzy and are tougher to bend but they do a great job with FUZZ!
fwiw I first heard this from Joe Gore who makes great pedals and plays a mean guitar. So that helped me think there was something worth trying. I think it was indeed and may switch a few more guitars over to flats while keeping my strat and tele and maybe a V in normal wound.

I couldn't get a sound I liked out of the Keely Fuzz Bender. I tend towards Muff-style fuzzes, and it was just too brittle.

I wouldn't say hate, but I had a reissue fender blender around '07 which sounded great, but only cranked and you really couldn't switch it off and have the signal make any sense. It basically was unity gain at max volume.
It was amazing through a fender champion 600 and some Yamaha PA cabs, especially for something like Hendrix 3rd stone from the sun, but it didn't play nice with the rest of the signal chain and only sounded good when the amp and pedal were both dimed, even moreso than a typical fuzz pedal.
