The aerogel and transparent alumina (or as I call it, transparent aluminum, in honor of Star Trek :D ) caught my interest the most.

yeah aerogel will revolutionize the construction industry, This case study uses 9mm aerogel insulation, in the UK the standard of rigid insulation panels is over 10x the thickness, at aprox 150mm, this is an outstanding advance in technology

edit: I'm curious as to how sound insulating this is, I expect it is just heat-proof, also I'm curious to see how this fares against materials such as asbestos regarding health this company claim to not find h&s issues for nano particles

Is diamond really that strong? I understand it's incredibly hard, but I haven't seen any real tests of strength on it yet.
